Using the word modernise gives carte blanche for change of any proportion then does it?

If we could be a nation of top quality care 24/7 then that is something to be very very proud of in my opinion, but people working long hours, feeling pressured and stressed cannot keep that up for long. There is already a shortage of doctors and this whole kerfuffle has turned my very bright, driven 11 year old off from thinking about persuing a career as a doctor. I find that very sad.

    Oh fuddle, that's a real shame :(

Ivyleaf so sorry to hear that. I had my sweet, big boy for 18 years (rescued as a kitten). Thankfully, I still have his brother (napping in one of those beds you hang off the radiator).

i have just been accepted for a grant through the BVG enterprise and fairly easily at that(a quick 2 minute online application and approved for £15000)
They have asked for a £275 admin fee and then the fee will be sent via cheque in 4 weeks. It is a grant that when my company makes more than £45000 in one year the fee is paid back in monthly installments.
Does anyone know if this is legitimate?

:( Sounds well dodgy to me, mate. I'd proceed with extreme caution and not send them any money. Probably be better to ask on another part of the forums than old style, tho.

Did anyone actually SEE or READ this party manifesto?

To my eternal pain, I have to read them all... for England and Wales. I occasionally even find myself quoting bits of them, and I agree - no-one cares. I only care because one of them'll be my boss.
    I was very confused.

Not your fault - I get whimsical when tired :p

So sorry to hear this Ivy.

We invite these little lives to walk with us for a time, and we feel the pain when they leave us so sharply, but a little bit of them stays with their claws embedded in our hearts forever more.
Before humans die, they write their last Will and Testament, give their home and all their possessions to those they leave behind.

If with my paws I could do the same, this is what I'd ask...

To a poor and lonely stray I'd give:

    My happy home

My bowl and cozy bed, soft pillows and all my toys

The lap, which I loved so much

The hand that stroked my fur and the sweet voice that spoke my name

I'd will to the sad and scared shelter cat and dog the place I had in my human's loving heart, of which there seemed to be no bounds.

So when I die, please do not say, "I will never have a pet again, for the loss and pain is more than I can stand."

Instead, go find an unloved cat or dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give MY place to THEM.

This is the only thing I can give...the love I left behind.
That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Oh NewShadow, that's lovely <<sniff>> We will have another one eventually, but for now it will be a relief to start getting the finances straight, as he had been on expensive medicine for about a year - we didn't begrudge it, of course, but it was a worry. We weren't able to insure him, as he was already getting on a bit when he moved himself in. e cost far more in vet fees than all our previous cats put together  bless his little furry heart.

Our recent model was sadly beyond repair 10 days ago - we miss it a lot, but won't miss the ongoing repair costs of this particular one  Of course people would be unwise to acquire these heaters if they feel the running costs will be too high for them, but ours turned up one day and refused to leave :)

    Sorry to read this.
Maintenance costs can be high - so far we've always found a way to pay them.
Once they've moved in, it is very difficult to move them on, both physically and even more so emotionally.

Political manifestos - I do wonder why anyone votes without having read the manifesto of the parties they consider voting for - but I'm the odd fish that reads T&Cs. Though I do wish that manifestos were written in plain English and were binding - plenty of manifesto promises are not followed through on election. (And I would never interpret modernise as destroy)

    Beautiful words, thank you.
  • The BBC news was blaming the Junior Doctors and the Teachers of the land for not just accepting what TPTB have decided to dole out to them, it would appear to be saying that they have joined together and are being disruptive on purpose and even suggesting the motivation was political in nature rather than trying to avert a disaster. The teaching profession has been vilified and ridiculed for quite a few years now, all vestiges of authority and respect have been systematically removed and they are now trying to do the same to the Medical Profession with the teensy suggestion that this stand they have made is to bring down the government??? I would rather have a functioning NHS and an adequate and working Education System that educated out young folks to the standard where they are employable than have some nit of a minister pushing through measures that are not acceptable because of words on a Manifesto Document. This is REAL life, people who are ill want to be helped and made better, people who have a child want that child educated properly and for that to happen you have to have a motivated and appreciated workforce. What we do have is stressed and worn out staff who are constantly criticized and continually subject to enforced changes to the way they do their jobs, no wonder they are demoralized, have no hope and considering leaving their professions in droves!

We still can't sit in Dockys armchair and it's a year in June!!!

    :T Well said, Lyn.

I'm always unamused that when politicians want to motivate the masses, even those who are highly-qualified professionals, they seem to think that you achieve this by stripping away decent pay, decent working conditions and constantly undermining the esteem in which they are held by the wider public.

Yet when politicians or their cronies need to be motivated or rewarded, there are no holds barred as kitties are raided and T & Cs bolstered to ridiculous levels.

In the past two hours, I have spoken to a woman who would have been a widow for 15 years now but for herculean efforts by a number of doctors in one of the country's leading hospitals. Most of us have stories to tell of extraordinary efforts by medical professionals. Yes, they're human, they're not perfect, there are adverse outcomes sometimes, and there is no such thing as a perfect health service, but we don't get it as good as it can be by allowing the scum of the universe (politicians) to meddle.

If politicians were lined up against a wall and shot, most of us would consider it a good day's work.

  • Perhaps it would be more fitting to make them live for a few months on the scraps of the land in a deprived and run down area maybe in a tenement instead of in their nice Middle class London homes and with their fat cat salaries and private health schemes. Let them be required to do this at the rate of the lowest incomes in the land and with a basic NHS entitlement before they can take up the job of governing the people and see what a difference it makes to their attitudes towards our professional workforce then?
