So how is this relevant on the preppers thread? Reading about other people's money is dead boring lol0

And do they work 13 hours a day? New Shadow does have a point to a slight extent that an MP's wages could be higher but is still forgetting that even £52000 a year is a figure that puts them in the top 5% of earners nationally and so much higher than that would mean that they do not see themselves as part of the people but a class above. I have met many people more talented and skilled than an MP but they get far less money than I would suggest as a start let alone what they actually get now.
Though if you are to get a government that will actually solve problems you really need to criminalise lobbying by companies, and especially the funding they give to parties. Cap donations by all methods and link it to voters so it can be traced and verified. If this was addressed then certainly salaries could remain as they are. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

Actual meals - I could probably do a month if electricity still worked, maybe a week if it didn't (freezer) mostly. If I was just looking at food/calories - with just access to water and heat I could 'survive' for around 3 months I think - lots of oats/pulses/dried carbs.
In three months, at the very least, collectives should have formed - if not full societal rebuilding/evacuation.And do they work 13 hours a day?
Ministers certainly, the PM probably longer. Plus that doesn't count a lot of work happening at the weekends.
I've shadowed an aide before now and I wouldn't have been able to do two consecutive days in cabinet office. You might not respect the job - but it darn well ain't easy. That sounds like a classic case of premature extrapolation.

Taking it carefully, I'd reckon about 6 months.2) What would you do if/when they were finished?
That would depend on how bad a SHTF situation it was.
Do the laws on hunting, fishing and trapping still apply?0 -
Interesting SHTF question but with obvious variables! If electricity were still available, shooting etc allowed, time of year and wether you have your own veg patch, chickens, livestock etc
It also depends on wether we were considering "survival" food or continuing on our exisiting diets. Personally an essential for me is Tea, I am likely to kill without access to it! I can live without fizzy drinks, chocolate, icecream, some alcohol etc but I am not a rational person when deprived of tea! Funny enough I have considered a SHTF scenario regarding tea and considered buying a couple of tea bushes to enable me to dry my own.
If we are talking continuing with a reasonable diet based on the stores at hand we could probably live for nearly a year if not more. I have three large freezers stuffed to the gunnels, loads of dried grains, rice etc bottled fruits, jams, pickles, preserves, dried veg/fruit, fresh eggs and if neccessary chicken, plenty of sheep walking round the place, a son who likes to shoot, a veg patch, fruit bushes/trees and a reasonable knowledge of foraging both wild plants and fruit, ability to fish and to do what is neccessary to feed my children (worm burger anyone?)
Obviously once the frozen food was used up we could refill freezers from garden/foraging/meat etc or if not available make do with what we could produce and store. As we have sheep I think I would have to teach some of them that milking isnt too bad! I used to have goats when we were young so sheep cant be that different. Forgot to say we also have bees so honey is available and for barter. I could "encourage" the hens to reproduce so we have fresh meat and eggs we can barter with. I can home brew so my drunken ways can continue :-). I am able to fish both sea and fresh, catch prawns, pick mussels and other shellfish. My grandfather was an old fashioned "poacher" and taught me how to get moorhens eggs with spoon tied to a long stick ( the principle not ever done!), catch pheasants with drunken grains, set snares ( NOT a fan but when needs must!) and explained about branchers although I didnt like the sound of them!
What would I do when my initial stores ran out? Mourn the loss of bananas! Crave stupid things that I cant have but may not actually eat regularly now.
If it was a serious SHTF scenario and my children were needing medicines/essentials I would load up my 12 bore and four /ten and go get them! Sorry! but needs must and hell hath no fury compared to a mother protecting her young!! If someone got in my way and I couldnt see a way around the situation I would just have to do what was neccessary and be sick later! This would be in a situation of no hope/last resort.
God forbid I would ever be in this situation! If it was protecting what is mine rather than having to go aquire what was needed I would be more inclined to feel "justified" if no less sick.
I pray none of us is ever remotely in this sort of SHTF situation. I am not prepping for this! I am prepping for an economic disaster where neither myself or my partner can work or weather induced where we cant get out for a few days or worse weeks. I have get home bags etc packed in cars and the ability to get home via road or accross country. I admit my bug out preps are not as well developed as only in the worst of scenarios would I ever consider leaving.
Heres to being prepared but hoping for the best and staying safe! xx

I guess that is why there's often a few Zzzz's shed during Parliament then.
I quite fancy the idea of MP's, especially cabinet ministers, putting their point across for their niche of society that they work amongst day in day out. It's a sad state of affairs, in my opinion, when resignationis used as a tool instead of drive or fight and instead of debating why or the issues at hand we endure 'news' re hidden motives for that resignation.
And with that I shall get back to the rugby... ah valour.
Mar, not even a week at the moment. I wish for warmer weather so my lot (and me!) would slow down the eating.0 -
i could probably last a month ,as most of my prepps are tins could eat hot or cold that is supposing i could defend my stash , bearing in mind that other people less prepared could come and take it off you .... my butane burner plastic casing as disintegrated not sure if it works need to buy new one....the threat could even come from officialdom who could outlaw hoarding, if it was a more gradual decline would last longer........BTW went to union meeting council want to withdraw 1 of 3 seconded officers for unison and and half the 36 hours for unite and gmb respectively apparently one of the unison stewards represents all the care firms in salford.....so its not quite the attack on trade unions i originally thought. Though the council still want to restrict representation to council employees, but saving 40 k a year on a budget of 220 m (approx) seems petty for a labour council ... who as its roots in trade unions0
