I always carried kit that was highly visible,
Did you ever get to wear the original helly hansen? That was standard kit for us when I did mountain leadership, 1966-1969. Heavy, waterproof, shiny, thick, not breathable, oh they made walking a distance a lot harder and when not worn then they had to be carried as well as all the `just in case` gear in our rucksacks
Lol, those were the days esp when we got to do sweep searches with the RAF mountain rescue or rock climbing with fit young men0 -
Like the look of some of them Pineapple. Definitely a case of "try before buy". Britain is an awkward country for me to buy clothes in - because a lot of the clothing here is made for "pear shapes" and I'm not. Checked out according to my "proper" measurements (ie après diet) and came up as size 8 hips, size 10 waist and size 12 bust:rotfl:. Just a slight problem then...:rotfl:
I think I'm about to google for other countries' rainwear sold in Britain - will start with German ones....as I think their shape probably matches mine better and I like to buy German if I can (for the quality).0 -
I got a seasalt jumper that come through in work.. Brilliantly warm, but as I use it everyday it is now looking really shabby. So I went around the shops yesterday, and the quality of branded clothes have def gone down...
Go outdoors have good coats , but I didn't think much of thier jumpers,, in the end I went to matalan and bought some men's fleeces..
Re wax/ Barbour coats, I love them.. But they are work clothes IMO.. And def need to be re- waxed .. My wax coat has seen better days, and yes there is always baling twine in the pockets.. I also got an army issue gortex camo coat, which at the moment I can't find, so I am hoping I haven't lost it..Work to live= not live to work0 -

Have you just been on the news......:D. The wettest place in the country.... !Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
I have some seasalt clothes and they all look quite shabby after just a few wearings, plus a couple developed small holes. I would never buy seasalt again. The first seasalt garment, several years ago, was quite well made, so I bought more but I wish I hadn`t. If the outlet shop sells normal seasalt clothes ie as in the catalogue then I wouldn`t touch them with a bargepole. They have skimped on the amount of fabric used as well and tops are too tight and very thin cheap cottons0

I think the trouble with a lot of clothing brands is that the brand's owners get greedy, want more profit and start cheaping-out on the cloth or the construction. People do notice and you don't get the repeat custom.
I was lucky enough to find two long-sleeved teeshirts in my Everything 50p chazzer. Superb quality cotton, thick and soft, which have worn and washed very well. The brand? - Uniql0.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Nope....but we've all been agreeing here that they musta got it right:(.
It is a problem and one of my friends that moved here at same time as me tells me the weather is definitely making her feel distinctly down (to extent she is wondering what to do re depression).
I came here as somewhere I could afford a proper garden with my house and have come to conclusion that gardening here is going to mean the house costs me some thousands of £s more than I thought I was paying for it - ie to make suitable adaptations.
Back to googling rainwear - and I've been on the H & M website checking out their sizing. Conclusion - I wish they made higher quality clothing - as it turns out I'm a Swedish shape and not a British one:cool:. That doesn't surprise me.....
Reminding myself that there are advantages to being here - when those "groping" attacks turn up in Britain (which I anticipate will happen soon) I very much doubt they'd happen this far West. If they did - I'll say one thing for Welsh men...I would feel very confident they would step in and deal with it pdq and any man that tried it would soon find they were coming to the womans' aid.
EDIT; I've been studying local news from home county and the rate of expansion/building is still going hell for leather....grr. I see some development I had been anticipating for a while is indeed going to happen - and the odds have just gone up that my last house might find some of that development VERY close indeed. So I'm reminding myself I've avoided that...0 -

Only onceI was loaned a set of Hellys, biggest problem being I got as wet from sweat as I would have done from the rain. I ended up buying a set of vinyl waterproofs designed for oil rigs and fishermen, had the advantage of being a lot lighter if no more breathable. Wore lanolined wool ganseys for a couple of years then someone invented fibre pile and Goretex.

My favourite jumpers at the moment are either a Ping golfing fleece polo or a Craghoppers fleece and if it turns really cold the two can be worn together, both seem really thin, both high quality garments that work.
I have an ankle length fully lined leather coat that weighs a ton but really comes into its own sub zero, most winters are too warm for it. My wax is in need of recoating before next winter - its had a hard life. I'm generally wearing a down gilet and adding a shell jacket if needed at the moment, but the temperatures have been relatively mild this year. Thankfully I no longer have to wear formal suits and therefore overcoats etc. (or for that matter, formal shoes).0 -
Best sweater i've ever had I got from a shop about 30 years ago in the lakes. Wool, hand knitted by a company set up and the sweaters made by blind people.
I still have it (being a bit of a hoarder), probably wouldn't fit into it now though.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
We have had a light sprinkling of snow here at Shoebox Towers and a complete dearth of armed police or any ruckus. The last major incident was 16 days ago so we're overdue for another one. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0
