Preparedness for when

Because you get out of breath faster in really cold air. We've just come back from a wee wander round the village and its a foot deep in some places. I wrap a shawly scarf thing round my neck on top of my coat to make breathing easier.0

The one on offer is like the bottom picture.
Thank you.
The lidl's offer is a battery charger, it needs a mains connection and will charge a battery over several hours, though its trickle charge mode could be handy for a seldom used vehicle or to keep caravan batteries topped up.
The major difference in what I'm looking at is an onboard battery, which you charge up in advance and can then jump start your car almost instantly. My typical use would be to top up /check the charge every three months. Then if any of the vehicles wont start due to a flat battery (eg lights or radio left on) then the jump starter will supply sufficient power to start the engine. I do carry jump leads as well, but its not always feasible to park along side to jump start a car this way.0 -

Couldn't answer that - as in the event of blizzard or similar I do = scarf pulled up to encompass mouth if it's that cold. Have never thought about whether my mouth would be open in that weather - and would be hiding it all the quicker if I thought it might be by accident - to ensure it couldn't be seen open for a reason other than eating or talking.0

I'm sure I've read somewhere that you should breathe in through your nose (a nose snuggled into a scarf, ideally) if it's very cold. Because the passage of the air through your nostrils warms it before it hits your lungs and cools you.
I do know that one day last winter, I was out walking for about half an hour in the cold without a scarf to cover my mouth (had a warm hat and coat on) and got a terrible headache - I could feel the cold going up through my sinuses inc the ones over my forehead and the pain was referred right up onto my scalp. Ghastly.
I shall be going out again shortly and will have the fun-fur trapper hat out for the first time this year. Just the ticket for cold weather and a fun look, too.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Be self aware next time you're in a blizzard mitstm... you might be shocked to find that your mouth is subconsciously ajar without you consciously knowing.
I wear a scarf too so that won't necessarily stop it0 -
I was reading that before GQ but it appears that the thinking is only circa 19th century so in terms of what is best, it might not be best for human survival etc. Science is great but man knows what it needs to do instinctively I guess.0

Thanks GQ.
Well, I have done some googling. It seems my gf's brother was locked up for 12 months in 2011 for looting during the London riots. No idea why he's still there. I guess prison may be the sort of place where you acquire further convictions for defending yourself against fellow criminals.
No, I did not think any the worse of my gf. There but for the grace of God go I.
Thanks for the link to the Prisoners Education Trust.
I saw gf yesterday & enquired about her bother. The poor lad was just jumped by five others while going into his cell. He managed to repel four of them, and gave one of them a good hiding. However, he is now locked up 23 hours a day for his own protection. He is going to be moved over 100 miles away, and looks likely to have further time added to his sentence.
There's nothing I can do to help of course, except maybe support the PET with some cash.0 -
A fun plonker look maybe...:rotfl:

:rotfl: me too, and one with a random knitted flower thing on the side of it (it was in the sale) . Also fur trapper hat here....i'm in for all the bad hats going that cover my ears, I hate my ears being cold.
However, had new arctic fab-rab coat on today to do a very swift food shop. Didn't need any heating on in car, and was unzipping the thing on return journey home as too hot. I must say, those coats are worth the money. I was driving around with the window open (mind I am terrible for fresh air).
Heating sorted, not as much as expected so that's good. Asbo-cat extatic. All secret stores sorted and away, however that area needs much more organisation at some point.
Re: cold air, I think that the main thing is to warm the air before it gets to the lungs, whichever method works for you, very important for asthmatics.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0
