Caulie has a foul stink, I`ll never do that again

    Seconded! :D

I bought another bag of mixed veg, but I will remove the cauli before I dry the rest.

I bought a couple of bags of reduced price kale to dry, didn't take long at all. Then I blitzed it to a powder to add to gravy, stews etc.

It is a nightmare to get my daughter to eat much veg (she is 16!!!), so I have been adding the powdered kale to the gravy, she hasn't mentioned anything, just thinks the dark specks are pepper.

I think I will do the same with a jar of the mixed veg actually, then I can sneak more into our cottage pies etc.

    :)

I hope this isn't heading our way.

Look at the floods they had in southern Spain yesterday!

If anyone has family or friends out there, I hope they are safe and well.

Yikes ... Gally Girl, from on here, has retired out to Spain, I don't *think* she's in the way of that ... but with flash floods, who knows :( that video is shocking :( when the lorries created a temporary dam, I noticed that all the water turned up the side street where there was a guy still filming out on the street! The situation can change in seconds ...

Friends of mine advocate Wakawaka, given they spend several weeks at a time away from power sockets, have kids who are welded to PSPs and themselves use smartphones and netbooks I will be taking their advice as to the brand to buy. The Base 10 that they speak very highly of (having been involved in the Kickstarter and field testing) isn't on the website yet.

Thank you! Will have a look at this one too :) x

Looking at those videos of the floods in Spain has made me nervous. We have a huge cyclone heading our way and at the moment the maps show Corfu right in the full blast of it. It is expected to hit us anytime from tomorrow evening. It was forecast for late on Thursday but it has now been brought forward.
We have just been having a discussion on the best way we can prepare for it, I am going to move everything from outside that can take flight and damage anything. We have storm shutters on all the windows , so they will be closed and locked from tomorrow morning. The electrical items will be unplugged when we go to bed, just in case it hits in the night.

We had the roof fixed earlier this summer, but we still have the issue with the broken rain drain in the street above us. They are forecasting a real deluge in a short time, so have decided if that comes anywhere might be flooded! We have the squeegee ready and the towels to mop the worst of it out of the door. The house is raised to the height of five steps but water goes through the village like white water that you could raft on!

My friend , who works on the beach beneath the mountain where we live says the wind is gusting really bad already and the sea looks very angry. All this set me to thinking about the islands where the migrants are. Many of them are sleeping in the streets and a few have a tent for shelter. They are almost all at sea level. If this cyclone hits that area, even the edge of it, conditions are going to be atrocious very quickly .

Yes and people need to be aware of that. I am wondering how people will cope financially with such a flood? Insurance is one of the things that people will cut if things are tight and things have been tight in Spain for several years. So a flood like this could cause financial ruin to many.

  • Feeling a bit poorly today, I've picked up a throaty thing and while pootling about on t'interweb I came across a useful looking cooking medium. It's a Moroccan Charcoal Brazier called a MAJMAR, needs to be used outside but will cook a tagine (I think a casserole too) or you can use it as a grill. You need regular charcoal not the ready to light packs and lighting fluid and it takes about 10 minutes to get it going but it's a good size and there are some on Fleabay for around £15. There is a good U tube video on setting one up and lighting it too. Might be worth a look as it looks a useful thing to have as prepping equipment.
