Frugalsod Last year I splashed out on some new bras, and when I got home I realised one of them had somehow not gone through the till.
I took it back to the shop the next day to pay for it. The staff were astounded that I hadn't just kept it!
I thought that was a really sad state of affairsIt's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Regarding the SHTF moment.
Not sure if it is on the MSN at the minute but just spotted on YouTube and Twitter, that there are currently 5 Chinese warships off the coast of Alaska!!!! Obama is visiting there at the minute........
Pentagon says there are 3 Chinese combat ships, a supply vessel and an amphibious craft.

I had a minor SHTF here at home last night.
I have a water softener, so also have a couple of hard water taps for drinking water. These are rather flimsy items on the corner of my sink & bath which are also used for water filters.
A couple of days ago I noticed the bath one was dripping. However at 1 am last night I tried to draw a glass of water to brush my teeth, and the tap stayed full on despite being off. I came downstairs and tried to turn off the service valve near the softener, but it was seized due to lack of use. Even the house stopcock wouldn't work either for the same reason.
I had to go out to the garage and try to find pliers & WD40 to turn the water off. I got it 90% off, and went to bed. This morning I have replaced the bathroom tap. However, it's quite a lesson to me to turn those stop cocks occasionally.0 -
I think that the size of the company has an impact. People feel guiltier if it is a small trader and will come out of their pocket. With a big trader it is a big potentially tax dodging corporation so the guilt factor is minimal. Though with petrol stations they take it out of the pocket of the cashier.
This was at M & S so you're probably right.
jKo I was thinking the same thing about our stopc0ck the other day - that it needs to be turned - but it's behind the dishwasher, which is really difficult to pull outDS is reluctant to do it and he's young and strong!

Yeah, mine's also in an awkward place. I think I might order one of these:

I've had the same sort of thing.
Many years ago I bought large item and got it home and then unwrapped the package and realised they had (by mistake) given me a much dearer item than I had bought. Thats the one and only time I've seen my parents be a bit "less than" - as they thought I should keep it. Mind you - they were the ones that had to load up their car and help me take it back to the shop and get it replaced with the one I had actually bought:rotfl:0 -
Here is proof that the recovery has yet to materialise.

If the economy was as strong as claimed then there would not be so many empty shops. One solution would be to allow councils to continue to collect business rates on empty shops from owners and this would give them an incentive to actually reduce rents and encourage someone to use the store. As it stands at the moment if the property is empty it pays no rates or taxes so the owner and more likely the managing agent has no incentive to reduce rents as it would lower their average rents. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
If you are a landlord of a commercial property, and your Tennant leaves you can only have 3 months free council tax, then you have to pay.
What the problem is, alot of inner city and and commercial units on enterprise zones etc are owned by large companies/ pension fund companies etc, so even though they want their properties rented out, alot of them will not lower the rent price, or if they do then they inflate the buildings insurance in the second year... And there is sod all you can do, as it is a clause in the lease...
Big landlords work on percentages, and as long as x % of their over all portfou!io is rented out, they will not drip the rent price, or lease terms etc
Edit.... Plus they treat the buildings as investments and know on average ( used too) that a property can double in value over 7- 12 yearsWork to live= not live to work0 -
