I love the big bang theory too.

It never is like in the movies. They phone and get straight through, people are never out or switched the phone off. A commandeered
car is always full of petrol and service at a garage, diner or store is instant and they always have the right money.
Even in no tech situations, fires always light and never go out, hunting and fishing is always successful and no one ever gets ill or is hungry. In the words of the book about the first millenium "when a peasant looked at the larder and said there is nothing to eat , he meant it!" Nowadays my dds will look at the fridge and say there is nothing to eat and half an hour later I will serve them plates of quorn and couscous with peppers , onions etc. or a
spanish omelette, stuffed pancakes or veggie noodles.
They look at the fridge and see nothing , while I look at the freezer, fridge and cupboards and see "stuff that makes stuff!""This site is addictive!"

A famous female TV cook, can't remember which one, joked at how her children look in cupboards and the fridge and complain that there's no food, only ingredients. :rotfl:
But yes, it is an indulgence to be picky about what we have to eat. I find it useful to catch up on odds and sods by pretending that there is no money for new food and that I only have what is already in, and to get my meals from that.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

What a good idea GQ! I'm going to try that0 -
Ivyleaf, 'bottom of the fridge' meals are usually the best meals of the week. OH had a fear of leftovers when we first met, but now he looks forward to meals made out of them. He's not yet brave enough to make something himself though and is happy to leave it to me.Decluttering Awards: 🏅🏅0

This morning I bought a newspaper for my parents in the local tesco using a self automated till and collected my green clubcard points but was given too much change so I handed it over to a cashier and both she and the customer were open jawed at the fact that I handed over excess change. Are we such a dishonest nation that honesty shocks us now? It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Frugalsod Last year I splashed out on some new bras, and when I got home I realised one of them had somehow not gone through the till.
I took it back to the shop the next day to pay for it. The staff were astounded that I hadn't just kept it!
I thought that was a really sad state of affairs0 -
He is a champion archer but damned nearly made a fool of himself missing the bonfire.
It was never like this in the movies, hey? :rotfl:
As Napoleon Wilson said to Lieutenant Ethan Bishop, as Bishop tried to shoot a box of magnesium flares, through a cloud of gun smoke:-
"You can't argue with a confident man".0 -

Agreed.
In the movies, however, magazines never run out of ammo.
A good guy with a pistol can shoot a dozen baddies, all armed with machine guns, while they can't hit him.
Guns don't have built in safeties, meaning they go off when dropped.
Guns never require re-zeroing, and can be fired with pinpoint accuracy, by whoever happens to pick them up.
Also, on the subject of guns in movies, has anyone seen Expendables 2 and Chaos?
I have a couple of question.
1. When they storm the hideaway at the beginning of Expendables 2, why was Jet Li's character carrying a pistol loaded with only one round
2. At the end of Chaos, when Shane Decker is chasing Lorenz through the container yard, why was Decker carrying a pistol loaded with only three rounds :huh:0
