We heard about the water situation last night but according to the map are not affected. We are having hot drinks etc. just in case as they are saying the bug can be killed by boiling. I do have plenty of bottled water stashed away too.

:) People used to drink beer because the water wasn't safe. At £4.10 a pint in my city, I shall be darned thirsty if that's the case. Tea's up!

When DD1 and I had our holiday to the Orkneys a few years ago and flew out to North Ronaldsay for a few days we arrived there to notices everywhere saying that the water supply was contaminated by Crypto Sproidium and not useable for anything other than toilet flushing.

On Enlii http://www.bardsey.org/english/staying/essential_info.htm there is a spring water supply but they have problems with liver fluke so all drinking water has to be filtered (big Berkey style).

The unfiltered water can be boiled so can be used for cooking etc but teeth brushing, face washing etc they recommend using filtered water.

The main supply is rain water collected in large 4'x4'x4' tanks (food grade industrial) behind the houses bucket at a time.

Loos are dry composting which cuts one of the biggest single uses to nil.

And a bit about small beer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_beer

Mind you.....I guess Wales could always sever the bridge that connects us to rest of Britain....hmmm.....goes off to ponder that little thing...

From memory of walking most of it, there's about 160 miles of land between the Dee and the Severn that forms a land border or are you thinking Anglesey?

A long time ago gin was also used rather than risk drinking water, because it was distilled.

I have been watching a number of RV videos and some use composting toilets instead of flushing toilets as it eliminates the need for a black water tank, and all the fun that comes with emptying it. By using coconut fibre base you can also be greener as coconut fibre is a waste product as well.

Something for those in the North West to consider.

    Cryptosporidium. Nasty.

It killed over 100, in an outbreak in Milwaukee, in 1993.

I am a great believer in things in the air!and affecting different peeps in different ways, last week myself oh and son were together Friday, sat and sunday, we all ate the exact same drank exact same etc yet sunday night I was violently ill for 6 hours vomiting/dioreah to the point on Monday my ribs felt like someone had repeatedly beat them with a baseball bat due to heaving so much, how can we live in same house, eat, drink and breath same air and thankfully only one get so sick so quick? I am a hefty lump but am the most likely to pick up or catch whatever is flying about in the air ,Monday morning it had been and gone in me I would love to have a stronger constitution I take vitamins, eat plenty of fruit/veg drink a lot of water and im still the first to catch whatever is about or I will get it worse than other peeps get it. so very glad I not live near where that water is contaminated as I would prob be in a quarantine ward with a crowd around me!looking at the news and empty supermarket shelves devoid of bottled water scared me a bit made me realise how quickly panic would set in if tshtf big time scary stuff, well away to let dog out again as he has floating kidneys this morn have a lovely day all xxx

:( I'm sorry you've been so ill, craigyw. It could be something as simple as having touched something (door handles are very germy) and then unwittingly transferred a bug into your own body by hand to mouth/ nostrils/ eyes. Or someone exhaled or sneezed near you.

My auntie cleared up after a diahroeal epidode of her old dad, didn't get sick herself but transferred the bug to her home and made her hubs (10 years older than her) very ill.

I remove my shoes and then wash my hands as soon as I come home, even if I've only been out to the communal bins where I have to lift their lids. A little prevention goes a long way.

Can you imagine how wretched it would be to be ill as well as in a crisis situation? And bottled water will be one of the first supplies to be depleted in an emergency.
