Indeed - and the trust is indeed gone from both sides re Greece. It does indeed look like they want the Greeks out and part of this is this idea of a "temporary" exit from the euro. "Temporary" = oh yeah?! Since when would that be only temporary?
"Temporary" is the word used re "Its only a temporary closure of that hospital ward"- hmmmm....0 -
Important - somebody on another forum has posted this- I don't know if this is true, can somebody on tax credits please check??
"From April 2016 the in come threshold to claim for working tax credits will go down from £6,420 to £3,850. At the same time the minimum wages will rise to £7,20.
To claim you must work at lest 16 hours a week
16 x 7.20 pays £5,990.40 per year
That's £2,140 over the threshold to claim working tax credits at all
No one will ever qualify for this benefit after April 2016"0 -
I've been lurking and reading this thread with interest.
Just two off-the wall ideas re Greece:
1. Many museums in Europe (not to mention the rest of the world) hold a large number of Ancient Greek artifacts - wouldn't it be great if they could give, say, €5 per artifact to Greece (without prejudice of course to avoid ownership wrangles).
2. Greece is currently having to cope with a massive influx of refugees from the conflicts in Syria and beyond: how much financial contribution is the EU making to the Greek government to offset the costs of this? Since this immigration is going to affect us all, euro- and non-euro-members alike, it should be a substantial contribution.
(Ok - I'll get back in the box now, all this blue-sky thinking outside it makes my head hurt :rotfl: )“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️

About the same as they contribute to the UK, for the "asylum seekers" we take.

I know I posted a link a few pages ago to a site showing how much you will lose/gain.
We get working tax and child tax (present min wage) and it said that we would lose £30 per week!0 -
Mardatha - would it be worth you posting on the work and benefits board? They have a CAB thread at the bottom.
I can't fathom benefits out at all.
Aren't Universal credits meant to be coming in soon? There must be some kind of tapering system, surely?
Something I've just read which concerns me is that families with more than two children are ok at the moment - but if they stopped claiming and then made a new claim in the future only two children could go on the claim .
What about combined families when re-marriages or partnerships happen?
Surely that can't be right.
What a position to put people in. A rock and a hard placeNot dim.....just living in soft focus

Here is a potential bug out vehicle for those inclined. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

Maybe the 2 child cut-off is "2 per woman", rather than "2 per family"?
I look at combined families as, for instance, "She stuck to 2, but he had 3 by his last partner and now the combined family includes 5 children" - so maybe its being counted that way (ie as one extra child iyswim). Therefore his child 3 wouldn't get any benefit - but her children 1 and 2 would and his children 1 and 2 would).???
That's how I'd expect it to work - considering the reasoning behind why its happening.
I always looked at it that, if I had wanted children, then I (as the woman) could have had one to replace me and one to replace him and then stop iyswim. So I think that, if you start from that basis, then you can probably work out how the Government has worked out the details.0 -
If anyone is after a real bargain Millets have a super sale on at the moment and I've replaced my Merrell Trekking Sandals today for under £60 and they are over £100 full price. The style is KAHUNA and they are the most practical and comfortable sandals I've ever had. I'm sure I've had the old ones for at least 4 years to so hard wearing old toughies of shoes too! I also managed a like for like replacement of my daysack for £25, worth a look if you're considering in investing in good quality items.0

Now why isn't that a surprise?!
And yet - it could be a way for the Germans to save face and give Greece what it needs.“Tomorrow is another day for decluttering.”Decluttering 2023 🏅🏅🏅🏅⭐️⭐️
