Assuming pages load - not always a given.
Both in thread posts and PMs, when you've typed a post/PM ctrl+A will select all the text in your message, ctrl+c will copy it.
If you get the session expired or time out errors, then pressing the Backspace key with normally take you back to your post with the message still there. Pressing submit quickly gets past the timed out message.
If your message isn't there or the site takes a few minutes to load, then clicking in the text box and ctrl+v will past your message back into the box, clicking submit should then post the message.

ctrl+a hold the key marked ctrl, then press the "a" key, all the text in the box should highlight (select all), release both keys.
ctrl+c hold the key marked ctrl, then press the "c" key, this copies the highlighted text to memory, release both keys.
hold the key marked ctrl, then press the "v" key, this pastes the text from memory into the text box. release both keys.

On Mac's use the Command key instead of ctrl.

  • Yes I'm having those same problems with the site. It wouldn't let me thank anyone - or at least the button disappeared but my thanks didn't show.

Let's hope the techie bods have a clue what's going on.

You're very welcome, the missing one from that set is ctrl+x for cut.

They work across the vast majority of Windows programs, so are a useful set to know.
The other one that is used rather a lot is ctrl+p which brings up the printer dialogue.

ETA: Thank you S_Wales_Saver this old dog just learned a new trick. F5 is the shortcut for page refresh and it brought back the post after the timed out error. Hopefully it will do the same with the edit, but I'm copying before posting each time at the moment.

I'm a bit behind but just wanted to say thanks to the earlier discussion on here about planting tree cuttings I now have willow, hawthorn, elder and sloes established. Just hope the sheep don't find a way in.

I have a large wind farm close by. The wind farm is not a problem. They do look good.

However, because we have a large farm loads more companies are trying to build them - I don't want more, I have my fair share. We also have a single track road which was ruined by all the heavy wind farm equipment and which despite complaints hasn't been repaired. Since I am off grid I rely on that road for oil deliveries for the generator in winter. I am not pleased.

I have also been having problems posting replies and accessing User Control Panel, obviously the luck of the draw as to when and if I can navigate the site. Sometimes short posts get through but longer ones time out. Let's see if this one goes....

We got a lot of money in this village from the windfarm and got to vote on what to use to for. one of the options, suggested by rich guy who bought a house converted from a derelict farm steading, was to "plant trees". They locals, when they had recovered from hysterics, told him we already had sodding trees and he just hadn't noticed them! What does a tiny quiet lonely village need trees for ?! (we all got money towards a new eco household appliance instead which was much more useful!)

I'm glad that the money was used by the people it affected. I guess that's another gripe I've got against the wind farm here. The community money went to a village some miles away and the isolated properties surrounded by the wind farm got no benefit, and no chance to get on the community committee. At least the committee have made some good choices to benefit the wider community here just nothing that benefits those directly affected.
