  • I've stayed close to home. Just popped to Asd* to get the pretty trousers and tops I'd seen for twin DGDs for Easter. Only to find they'd totally disappeared :(:(. I can't believe they've all been sold since Thursday! Ended up at primarni where I got shorts and t-shirts. Got 8/9 yrs and 9/10 yrs (for two six yr olds:eek:)

Then when they arrived back from their birthday party DD and I helped them make cupcakes and chocolate cornflake nests. I hope they are as shattered as I am right now. Lol.

    Where is everybody?

Had the rellies, with the usual day-&-a-half's notice... Lovely to see them, but a run-up at clearing the room they're staying in and at the catering, would be useful! So I've been cooking for 9 for the last three days. Luckily there was plenty in the freezer & store-cupboards, and it was market day this morning to re-stock with fresh stuff. We've just waved them off, taking DS1 with them, off up to Town to stay with his young lady for the rest of the festivities. So we've had the big meal today, and tomorrow I shall bung something in the slow cooker & put my feet up!

Come to think of it, I always have to be prepared for random visits from OH's family; mine might drop in for a cuppa at short notice if passing by, but not for three days! That's probably one of the reasons I originally got into the habit of keeping rather more supplies on hand than most.

    Anyone see this on Zerohedge?

One of the comments struck a chord:
Aticle translation: The accounts are already earmarked. So either you tell us to confiscate it so you can pay us off OR you turn to the Russians and we confiscate it for ourselves directly.

I reckon trained gulls are the best defence critter, though training them to only attack intruders will be a problem.
Magpies over here. MIL has had some success in feeding hers and taming them to them, they no longer swoop them when nesting. They do however swoop visitors, mailmen and young children on bicycles. Have a feeling a moat would be easier.

We've been missing due to our entire easter plans going awry yesterday. FIL is a keen road cyclist but came off yesterday morning. Hitting tarmac at 40kmph has a powerful effect if you're over 50. We spent yesterday in hospital with him before getting him home. He's lucky, a broken collarbone, stitches in the head and plenty of patches of missing skin. Feel sorrier for MIL to be honest, since he rides 4 or 5 times a week normally and is unbearable when bored. His only other pursuits being retired now are gardening and cooking, neither of which are going to be possible for some time.

So a day at the public hospital and no usual family easter, but grateful he's mostly in one piece.

I'm not seeing a problem with this - on the face of it?

Unless its anticipated that the definition of "wealthy" would be set very low (ie including a lot of ordinary income people) and if its money they owe anyway (ie taxes they didn't pay).

It's always rather felt to me like high rate of tax evasion does seem to correlate with a poor society (ie low level of public services, etc).

    morning all,

haven't been here for a while, so need to catch up on the posts..

with what has been happening with IS Around the place etc.. do you think its only a matter of time where they will start tampering with the food chain? I mean with food we get from abroad... we get lots of fresh food coming in from Kenya etc..

all you need is a couple of converted workers, either in the growing/fields or in the packing plant to start playing silly buuggers with our food..

a bit like germ warfare, but with our food..

MTSTM, the problem I have with that is that the German banks seem to be planning to raid the accounts of all those Greeks "suspected of" tax evasion. Who gets to define "suspected of"? Curiously, it seems to be the very German banks who think that they are owed money by the Greek State. In other words, they are awarding themselves carte blanche to raid anyone's account, any time, for any reason!

Don't get me wrong, I have no fondness for people who hide their excess funds away in other countries to avoid their social obligations in their own. But this is perilously close to allowing the banks to just help themselves to anyone's money, as there doesn't seem to be any due process involved in working out whose money, if anyone's, they're "entitled" to...

I wonder if our magpies could be trained that way - almost as many of them as gulls round here and they are far quieter.

Sorry to read of your FiL's accident, he may have been lucky but that's a bad enough list of injuries. Your MiL might want to take up your suggestion of a UK visit for a couple of months.

    Good to see you CTC,
Given we mainly import large quantities of fruit and veg the likely natural risks are E. Coli, salmonella and listeria. You'd either need to circumvent the veg washers or replace the bleach in the washing process with contaminants.
Though the same applies within the EU and even within the UK.

This would be the definition of a terror attack, the number of victims would likely to be low, the disruption and fear would be widespread.

And it wouldn't be a bit like germ warfare - it would be germ warfare.
