Daz I heard the changes being proposed by Salford City Council on the Radio yesterday and wondered if they affect you... I'm sure you mentioned some changes may be happening. If they do I hope it's good news for you!
I also want to send my best wishes to everyone with poorly relatives or water-logged abodes.0 -
How does this fit your needs?

Errrrm...but personally my taste would go more to:

Frugalsod, I really like that caravan. In fact, it's one of the few I've seen that I do.
It is also very light at only 300 to 400 kg do could be towed by a small car. From what I am seeing, something similar could be easily made by someone with the right skills once you have a trailer base.
With its single accessible space it could be used by people to move themselves between homes as it has lots of space to carry possessions, and could be a brilliant complement to a car for bugging out as it can carry everything a group would need and then double as a sleeper once at the location. Though I think that those that do car boot sales would find this makes a better option with its open doors providing shelter. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

NUATHA so pleased to read that MIL was comfortable yesterday evening, the chest infection is worrysome but she is in the best place for it to be dealt with as well as the after effects of the stroke. Hope today brings further improvement and that some of the stress in your lives is lessened. Thinking of you all, Lyn xxx.0

Yes they are really nice. My personal option would be to make one yourself from the plans. Many have built something similar with just a flat bed trailer as a starting point. A lot cheaper and you can customise it for your own special needs. If you live in the US then these make a lot of sense.
Customised would be ideal. I tend to feel a little nervous personally about those platform beds, but did see a tv programme recently where their customisation included that they had put theirs down at floor level. MUCH more to my taste.
I can see that they would make more sense in America. I've been quite surprised at the size of the yards many of them have compared to British pocket handkerchief gardens and, of course, their roads would be more conducive to hauling one of them around. I've certainly been studying what Americans consider normal size houses recently...what with all the house details my Californian friend has been sending me of the ones she is interested in viewing. You can see why the Americans would be more likely to view Tiny Houses as cute than we would - after the size of their standard ones. My friend is asking me if the British also upsized our houses in recent years to McMansions and saying that she is worried about whether many people will find her small size house too small to be interested in (even if they want an ordinary house, rather than a McMansion).
Her house is 1500 square feet and she describes it as tiny. I said "You should see our houses:rotfl:" and told her that mine is a 2 bedroom house of about 1000 square feet and that there are very standard type new detached houses being built in the area that are a little bit smaller than mine and the builders have crammed a 3rd bedroom and 2nd bathroom into them as well and we don't usually have the very high ceilings she has.0 -
I would not be so concerned about placing it at ground level. They will have stabilisers in all four corners, and they will be raised slightly to lift them off the ground so eliminating pressure on the wheels. By maintaining them off the ground they are more useful if you need to move. If it is the aesthetics of them being trailers, then plant raised flower beds around the base. As long as these can be moved quickly then you have all the benefits of them being mobile.
The roads in the US are apparently in an appalling state generally so they are not super easy to move there, but the fact that you can buy one and be debt free very quickly does make a lot of sense if you are on a modest income which most people are.
If you have the garden to put one then it can make sense, especially as a mobile option. If you want something more permanent then there are probably excellent options as these:-

Have you seen the see films first (run the words together to search)
where you can get free film tickets for some films in certain locations around the country?
Now I have a bus pass and can just get on a bus without looking out the fare and adding the price to whatever I have gone out to buy it makes such a difference.
Had a horrible 36 hours with DD showing signs of getting very ill again and finally managed to get her into hospital for tests etc last night. Her sister texted her this morning and she seems a bit better so we are going to see her later and take her a few things. Have her floorrobe in washing machine and will sort out more stuff later."This site is addictive!"

Very good points. It'd be an alternative to a van for those occasions you need to do an ikea run too. I doubt our little fiat 500 could tow anything! Though we do fit a surprising amount in it.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Someone is clearly worried about their offices getting burned down by screaming mobs.
