I have a Monk that stands in the corner of my kitchen - although I live in an old Dissenters Church so probably not that surprising.

I've often thought about that one myself. As someone who lives alone, there is usually no one who can say exactly what I'm doing at any hour of the evening or weekend. Be hard to prove that you were lying on your sofa reading a book if someone was absolutely insistant that you were elsewhere.

Back in 1992 I was falsely accused of 'disorderly conduct' by a woman neighbour who cut me up on the road several times. I made the mistake of following her and remonstrating when she pulled up.

For some reason she did not report me that day, but a week later. (I don't think her car was taxed or insured on the actual date.) I was called in to the police station and asked to explain my actions, and in due course the CPS prosecuted me.

I pointed out the wrong date to a £5 solicitor, and fortunately she was able to get the charges dropped.

However, it was a very stressful and worrying three months for me, not least because my job required me to have no criminal convictions.

In view of that experience, and having been spat at through the window occasionally, I now move heaven & earth not to have any contact with other motorists.

I also make a mental note of home arrival times, and have a dash cam that records all my journeys.

:( Sounds ghastly, jk0, glad that you were able to get it thrown out. Shocking that it even went that far, when I've been on the receiving end of harrassment actually causing criminal damage to my property and the blasted CPS decided not to prosecute the other party. Seems to me that they like a soft touch like a law-abiding citizen rather than tangling with a career criminal like my offender.

Been gardening up a storm today and getting stuff in the ground and the spuds are going in on 21st, weather permitting. Still eating the 2014 spud crop and the leeks are being dug to order. I don't stop gardening over the winter unless the weather absolutely forces me to do so, and keep pecking away at the plot a little most weekends and it gets done. Lots of lottie neighbours are working, but some have just stirred their stumps after having taken the past 6 months off, and there's no way in hell they'll be planting to schedule. Momma Nature waits for no one, things are accelerating rapidly with the longer days.

:D The blackthorn is out and I've seen the first bit of cow parsley flowering in a sunny spot.

:) I haven't seen any bees yet but the folks are 30 miles away and have both bumble bees and honey bees on the flowering currant in their back yard. The giant red tailed bumble bee should be about now, it nests early and has usually raised its brood by midsummer.

I was hoeing the autumn sown broad beans this afternoon but was careful to leave the clump of red dead nettles as they're an important food source for the bees at this time of year. My gardening always has room for a bit of untidiness esp when it's for my beloved bees.

Would love to hear about your contact with the other side Mardatha if you wouldn't mind sharing your experiences :)

:) I got a good tip, sadly too late to save me from wrestling with the bramble patch from hell. Cut the tops and bottoms off those 2 litre plastic bottles, for cola or water, and wear them over your forearms as protective sleeves. Having had many a scratch through jackets, I wish I'd known that at the time. You'd still need the gloves, of course.

What a great idea - I'm going to try this later this summer for brambling as my wrist and forearms get scratched to b*ggery!

Just waiting for our lottie to dry out a bit more before starting
planting out and trying to get to grips with implementing a permaculture type garden in our small home garden

Do you think that part of the prepping scene is to have the kind of outlook that says OK lifes not perfect but I can make something good from what I find? I'm aware of a constant groundswell of discontent amongst the general public of all ages and genders.
... I think along with that acceptance comes the thought that you can make things good yourself not expect someone else to fix things and do what needs doing. I wonder what brought each of us to prepping? we are such a diverse community there must be some interesting and useful paths to this thread.

Accepting where I am and finding a way to move towards where I want to be (and keeping that fairly realistic and achievable) and accepting that progress relies exclusively on our own efforts. Someone has to do it, well looking around there's two someones, and between us we do what we can.
We've had to send some aims and dreams to the bin - our health mitigates against the rural retreat that we once aspired to, life is what happens when your making plans.

I don't think I've ever not been a prepper - though my use of that term is more recent. My parents had a well stocked larder, my father grew a huge proportion of the veg we ate. Large quantities of pickles and preserves were made every year. We ended sugar shortages with several pounds of sugar on hand (though we'd typically have around 20lbs as a normal stock - regular home baking and preserving sessions meant consumption could be high).
So I'd argue that growing our own, stockholding etc were just normal.
When I left regular employment to go self employed, I did so knowing that regular paydays weren't likely to happen, ensuring several month's of supplies helped smooth out that irregularity. When my first ME relapse hit, there was food in the cupboards and money in the bank which helped me survive until I was well enough to get another short contract.
Behaviour which is rewarded tends to be repeated, so far being a prepper has been beneficial and reaps its own rewards. No employer would have put up with the amount of time off I needed when Herself became ill, the flexibility of self employment meant I could take the time needed (and still earn some money) having several months of frozen meals meant not needing to waste time cooking and still managing nutritional low cost meals.

    Thanks GQ.

A cynic might suggest that they just want fingerprints & DNA from as many of the population as possible. Once they had these from your assailant, what would be the point of collecting them again?
