just a reminder tonight uk channel 5 10,000 b.c . can a group of 20 people survive in a bulgarian forrest with only stone age tools and know how?
:) I've seen the Flintstone-esque stills taken for publicity and I think loss of grooming aids will be a major sorrow.

I've also been to Bulgaria, and managed to survive in the mountains with only a village and a lodge, 2 square meals a day, a comfortable bed and a packed lunch to go walkabout with.

Brutal. They have wolves in Bulgaria. And bears. I wonder if they'll eat the contestants?

  • I topped up the dishwasher salt today, except that it wasn't salt but dishwasher powder, a full jug and a half !!!!! had a moment of shock then went off to consult t'internet. Wiki said to 'act quickly' and DO NOT OPERATE. Two hours of back breaking labour later, swilling out with water, (I used the kettle) and sucking the water out with my ancient wet and dry cleaner, I turned it on for an empty wash--all seems well.
I'm so glad it wasn't full of dirty dishes or I would have turned it on straight away before I'd realised my mistake and probably ruined it altogether.

Once I'd finished I unplugged the ancient cleaner and put the kettle on, turned away to get a clean mug and BANG... I turned back in time to see the kettle launch itself into the air and hit the 10ft high ceiling, chipping the ceiling and splashing water everywhere. Turns out I must have got water on the kettle where it really doesn't belong.

As it was dark by this time, I was grateful it didn't trip the electrics.
DH comes home and wonders.... 'why didn't it trip the electrics? so now we've got to get the consumer unit checked out and possibly replaced (we rewired the house 30 years ago ourselves).
So the upshot is I'm down half a bag of dishwasher stuff and I need a new kettle but just might have saved us a much worse situation with the consumer unit.

    How was your day?
  • Hi runcorn bridge I don't have a dishwasher so don't understand what could've gone wrong by using dishwasher powder and not salt. I did get the second part of the story ;-) please can you explain sorry x

Can we bet on the bears and the wolves winning?
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

I've not seen the "Flintstones Reality Show" yet, but on the agenda for today. I expect I shall be watching with sheer boggle-eyed astonishment that anyone would put themselves through that. I do hope it was summer when they did this.....

Goes off pondering again how anyone could actually enjoy the thought of an extreme challenge.... But then my thoughts on camping out come down to "I had to spend several years living in grotty bedsits and that's quite enough roughing it for one lifetime. Why would I want to do any more?":rotfl:. One of my new friends here has spent years roughing it in places like Africa helping out there...and I shall be picking her brains with interest on that as to why anyone would do that (all praise to her for having done so...but NO thanks)...

:) A Bulgarian lass I was talking over to about it over there said that the wolves very seldom come down towards the villages, only in the most severe weather, and they're more scavengers after dustbins if the do. Bears are shy and seldom seen. We were walking in an area of mountain forest where they had been seen but the loggers were out and it was pretty noisy so the bears would have gone away. She was incredulous that the UK didn't have wolves, hadn't had any for centuries. I'm not sure she believed me, and she was a sophisticated lass from Sofia working in international business with superb English.

I looked at the list of contestants and thought how very realistic this was for a stone age tribe. No babes in arms, no children, no pregnant women, no grandma/ grandpa hobbling around with arthur. Mind you, bearing in mind that they're skills will probably be on a par with a stone age 6 year old, it's as well they haven't true dependants out there or their lives would be at risk.

I may try to watch it on the internet at some point. Not tonight, because I go to practice archery, a skill definately around in the stone age.

    I wouldn't bet against it.

As for the idea of roughing it, I've lived in less developed places and whilst I know I can use a hole in the floor in the back yard for the loo, an open fire to cook on and a large bowl for my laundry, I'd rather not if I have the choice thank you very much. As for going more "bush" and surviving in the wilds, I don't see the appeal for sport at all.

All that said, I'm about to move into a house with no furniture, no washing machine and I'm not sure the cooker works (though I am at least sure the toilet does) :rotfl:
