I live in Greece and was referring to the Greek orthodox church.... that is what the original poster said...

I wasn't contradicting you, 1Tonsil - just adding to what you said, because a lot of people don't realise there are several other Orthodox churches besides Greek and Russian, all very confusingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I'm sorry for your bad experience, womble, something similar happened to me when I opened the door on a pair of these chuggers, not knowing what they were.
Suffice to say, I was made to feel about 'this' high by some little modom on commission because I could not and would not support her cause.
I'm not an uncaring person, and I do donate to charity both in goods and in kind, but I like to be in control of it so that when my circumstances fluctuate, I can change my donations to suit the needs of the day.
I no longer open the door to them. I can frankly do without the emotional blackmail and I think very poorly of organisations who use such methods, I consider it a step too far.Mar, let the RV live, you need him to drive the car.............

The whole point of charity giving is to do it because you want to support your choice of charity. I will NOT be pushed into giving donations to all and sundry just because they knock at my door and apply pressure/moral blackmail to make me feel guilty enough to sign up to the charity they are promoting. It doesn't make me a bad person, I, like all of us, am not made of cash and can only do what I can do, If the chuggers don't like it, well so be it!!!0

Actually they celebrate it at the same time as everywhere else. The shops close early on Christmas eve and don't open again till after the holidays...this year they reopened on the following Monday. I went to the mainland...free mulled wine, carol singers, Christmas village, Elves and santa....the full works.
The Greeks celebrate Epiphany on 6th January, then twelfth night, when Saint Vassilis brings the children presents and everyone cuts a cake with a coin in it. Many children get a gift on Christmas morning as well and some get a gift on January 1st. I can understand confusion...:rotfl:
Thanks 1Tonsil. I was confused when I read your post, because I knew you must be right, but the list of religious festivals in my filofax said "Christmas Day (Christian Orthodox) Jan 7"....but I've just looked at it again and at the bottom of that list it says "Christmas Day (Greek Orthodox) 25 Dec".
ETA thanks to you too, maryb.
I'd thought all the Orthodox Churches had Christmas on the same day. That'll teach me not to make assumptions! Oh well, I'll know better in future.
So you were right too perplexed pineapple, apologies. Though it sounds from what 1T says as if some of the money drawn out probably was used to buy presents.0 -
Thank you for explaining about bail-ins, Nuatha.
We get chuggers all the time. I just tell them I'm on the dole (not true but I don't earn much above dole level). Some of them still try to get money out of me!Aspire not to have more but to be more.
