I don't like Americanisms either but from a prepping point of view I felt it was useful. A new TV isn't on my shopping list.

I've used it at home for more than a year and love it but am on my Dad's PC - have just watched horrific scenes of shopzillas fighting over sodding tellies. Can you imagine what would happen if it was the last food or water instead of discounted consumer durables?
It would be fatal to be caught up in such a scrum, anyone frail, or small or ill or elderly wouldn't stand a chance.
I have been recovering from spending 11 hours out of the home yesterday driving the rellies all over the county (well, two counties) for hospital appts. Was cream-crackered, but needs must when the devil drives. We've been having a quiet day today and, apart from a quick stroll into the supermarket, have been proper homebodies.I have knitted 2.5 cotton dishcloths this afternoon and will knit up the rest of the cotton yarn. They can go in Mum's cupboard until needed. We also hauled some of the SABLE yarn from the loft to make a new cardi. Think it's safe to say the extended family of GQ isn't in any danger of runnng out of handknitwear any time soon...........:rotfl:

Very valid point GQ sickening behaviour on the TV over stupidities like TVs and X Boxes and phones, just think how much more desperate people would be if they thought they were going to go hungry? Much better to keep your preps discreet and personal and not be seen to have a stock pile, out of sight is still in your posession isn't it?0

Yeah, and this is artificially-whipped-up hysteria over toys and trinkets. Imagine if bellies were empty and people were frightened about their very survival. You really don't want to have any kind of plan to shop when a panic is at full throttle. You don't want to be anywhere near a store in a crisis, or queuing outside a bank when there is a run on.
I shall continue pottering quietly about my business. Crimble is sorted and will be doing some of the wrapping tomorrow. Got a few more sweeties to get for a few people and that it IT, no consumer rush coming in the next few days to fill the retailers' coffers. You've had it, chum; in the past 11 months, there's no more to be seen.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Today my little solar-powered / wind-up radio arrived, I got a Powerplus one as I also have, and like, their solar powered lantern - I think someone on here recommended it. (Thank you!) They are both nice simple, chunky designs. I got tired of falling asleep with the radio on and constantly having to replace the batteries .... other than that, I have been adding to my stash of flavoured vodkas, I will stop now I think, as I don't really drink spirits, but a tasting over Christmas might be fun, as I now have:
Toffee (made today with a packet of W*rthers Originals!)
Rosehip
Quince
Damson
Plum
All made using garden produce (except the toffees ... my toffee tree resolutely refuses to produce anything) and Ald*'s cheapest vodka .... bring on the power cuts and snow - we're ready!!
PS Only joking. I hate winter.0 -
Ooh rosehip sounds lovely, I'll use the £10 Ald1 coupon retrieved from the newspaper that someone at work had stuffed in the bin to get another bottle of their vodka and add this to my own stash of infusions (W*rthers is everyone's favourite, then peppermint Aer0, blackberry, raspberry and damson).
A toffee tree and a chocolate tree would do very nicely.
We may be about to lose the field and barn we've rented for the last 20 years and the prospect of the old ponies living away from home is really worrying me - DD1, who's had her old mare 15 years, lives four villages away, we all work full time and I'm the only one with 4WD. There are awful crises affecting so many people, health, wealth and worse, including my wider family, and to be sick and sleepless over animals seems daft to outsiders, but it's a very real SHTF situation to us - not something for which we have a Plan B.
And my 28 year old oven has finally given up, so Christmas dinner needs a Plan B too. Maybe a happy Black Friday buyer will be getting rid of their old oven, looking for one will be my focus this weekend.0 -

Doesn't sound daft to me, I would be worrying about my 'pony-babies' too under that situation. Hope you find somewhere near for them if they do have to move...:(.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -

I hope if it does come to moving that something at least as good can be found, even better that the land owner changes their mind. And my 28 year old oven has finally given up, so Christmas dinner needs a Plan B too. I ended up replacing mine last autumn/winter - I found buying new was cheaper than second hand (think I paid £120 at Argos). It seemed that people wanted me to pay for their new ovens and take their old one, hope you have much better luck.0 -

People are the most dangerous animal on this planet with one exception - mobs of people. I'm sure the panic shopping scenes were rare compared to the number of shops having sales, but there is no way of predicting which will stay (relatively) civilised and which go crazy, as you said if its real survival, things are likely to degenerate faster and more widely.0
