Yesterday morning my car starter was a little slower than usual due to the cold weather, so today I have put it on a trickle charge overnight.

This only consumes 9 watts, so will only be a few pence, but well worth the peace of mind I think.

My Citroen uses a 900 watt electic heater to warm the interior, can you believe? Of course, this is only when the engine's running, but I do notice the engine power reduction on days when this kicks in.

Bob may I ask which company you use, since I'm looking for a different supplier. Thank you

I'm with 3, but it's not regular BB.

    I use a Dongle.
  • That's interesting on the machine we use when we stream in Firefox (OH preferred browser) it's constantly buffering but with Chrome no problems.

I also use Chrome and, even though I'm using a Dongle, Youtube seldom buffers.

Good morning , question, see if we did get water shortages can I go to one of my 3 water butts and scoop out the water , boil it and drink it?

Personally, I'd go for a filter, eg. a Sawyer Squeeze filter.

Boiling will do the job, but it takes a 7 minute rolling boil (at sea level - adding 1 minute for each 1,000 feet of elevation), to do it properly.

In a SHTF situation, fuel could well be a short supply.

SG is going out to her club, but I have joked if it gets bad enough, I shall have to go to the pub to some essential rehydration.:rotfl:

:p I know, Bob, we did this before on the thread, it was a joke.

We did some maffs at archery class yestereve, ably assisted by a passing physics teacher. Get this; a compound bow fires an arrow at one-third of the speed of light.

 That, my friends, is seriously-scary. Get in the way of one of those and it wouldn't be a case of being impaled, the arrow would be in one side, out the other and half-way to Lunnon Town before you can say ARRRGGG!!!!!!!!!!

No wonder those arrows were going into the target and half way out the back again and into the special curtain desgined to stop them by robbing them of their kinetic energy. Otherwise they would knock divots out of the plaster of the wall at the back of the hall. Some people's arrows may have been recovered from the curtain with a touch of plaster dust on the point.............proving that even we longbow archers can be a menace to the sports halls of the land. :rotfl:

The water company peeps were on site until 10 pm on Monday and then a separate crew came by and back-filled the elephant trap. It's a lovely pudding-y mess with some barricades around it. Not sure if there's more to do, or that's just what we'll be looking at until the grass re-grows, but it is as it is.

There were a few water main bursts in this city this week, this I know because the public ring the council instead of the water company. Seems to be the cast iron water mains rupturing, once I've spoken to the water company's call centre peeps. Dunno if they're all elderly and breaking at the same time, but it's interesting.

My futility company have screwed up my billing. I gave them my online readings for gas and electricity, the site didn't seem to like the electric one, they've prepared the gas bill just right but have estimated the new leccy one as exactly the same to the penny as the previous one, and they are working on the old meter ID number not the new one. I shall have to ring them when their lines open.

********wanders off singing Blondie's Hanging on the telephone.******

ETA; Hmm, they were using the right meter number but had somehow misplaced the need to bill me for the last 3 months' usage. I did explain that I was quite happy to have free elastictrickery (pls to be confirmed in writing, tho) but that I didn't think it was correct. The Billing Dept have been spoken to and I shall get a bill overnight with an email advisory.

Dammit, Janet, thought I was on freebie leccy there for a minute.

Are you actually sure they've filled it? Or might they instead have set the trap more cleverly, by covering the hole with sticks and dirt?

:D I think the inside of your head must be just as peculiar as mine, because I did look at it and had that very same thought.

It's near a drug-dealer's flat so heaven knows what they might catch in there. We could call it the oubliette and leave them in there to rot.

Enough delightful chitchat, it's time to leave for work on this side of the planet. Cover me, ladies and gents, I'm going in!

:rotfl: oubliette ... elephant trap ... I like 'em :D

There's a little stream runs close to me, and its already within a few inches of where it was at the wettest part of last winter. If it carries on like this, people are going to get awfully wet.
