I've just bought one of the grandchildren a remote control car for Christmas, are there any particular batteries you would advise as obviously batteries are not included?
Cheapest rubbishy batteries you can find, so at least Boxing Day will be quiet. I think my parents did the same thing.0 -

Failing that, get up early and switch the batteries around so that they don't work. Ooops, they've run out, darling, can't get to the shops for some more today..........
Another of my neighbours had been disappeared into the bowels of the prison system for sex offences against minors. Deep joy. I described him to somebody as superficially charming but I'd trust him about as far as I could spit a rat.
We get some choice ones in Shoebox Towers, I tell thee.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I forget where I read it, but the other day I saw an article that said anyone under 35 would never get an old age pension due to the age you get it constantly being raised. I guess those of us in our forties won't do much better, so I stopped funding national insurance when I left paid employment.
These articles make me cross filling people of my age with dread!
Jk0 you are lucky to be in a position for it not to apply, everyone's circumstances are different and although I'm not much younger than you I have no pension other than equity in my home...at the present time my mortgage will be paid off when I'm 64  I will be opting in when the new pension rules come in next year and giving my money to 'them', even though it won't provide what I earn now (which isn't a lot) I can't afford to turn away 'free money' in the way of government and employer contributions for £16ish per month of my contribution...if it's not there when the time comes then so be it...that £16 could easily have been spent on something else and if it's gone, it's gone...I realise I'm 'trapped' in the system and that's exactly what 'they' wanted
As much as I don't trust those 'in charge' (and that applies to ANY Party in charge), I'm here now and whilst I appreciate that they are taking mine and my employer's money now purely because they need it to boost their 'figures' due to their failings I will opt in as I'm willing to risk a few of my pennies now on the off chance it pays off in 30ish years...
In the meantime all I can do is pay my debts off, pay my mortgage (and more when I can afford), don't have to worry about banks taking my savings (huge as they are :rotfl:) and will keep trying to make sure that if the worst happens, things will be kept on an evenish keel for as long as I can in the form of food, water and well, food mainly...;)DMP journey about to begin...
£14,500ish to clear:eek::jTime to get my life back!:j0 -
When i was at school my best friend started going with a fella who said he was 17 - 3/4 years older then us at the time. Lived in a clean, trendy flat, with all the latest films, huge TV, always had fags and booze. Was tall dark and very handsome, with a lovely southern irish accent. He was always a little too interested, and creeped me out. Friend and I drifted apart, and then i moved house, so lost touch.
About 6 years ago (so 14 years later) His picture was in the front of all the papers. Was nasty bad man, 15 years older then me, who did awful things to girls from 11 to 15. Was locked up for a very very long time.
Never got me thank God!!
I work as a social worker now - and there is far more of those people then anyone of us like to think!
Tis a scary world at times, Love how you report stuff GQ. If you ever write a book I want it.
When i finish typing i'm going to eat my pineapple fritters - remind myself that most of my world is a wonderful place.
Just thinking about my hoard of prep - looking a lot more organised, and have tomorrow, sat and sunday to finish the organising.
I think I have enough food for a month, water purification tablets for a month, bottled water for a fortnight, and just about enough pet food for a month. Also candles, lighting stuff, camping stove, wind up radios . . ..
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Anyway, enough of most stuff for a month of no shop access.
I think!
Is there a basic list anywhere of what you might need if you were housebound for a month (flu, broken leg, big financial hiccup)?
I think I have a really good stash built up - but what if I've overlooked something really obvious / important?:j got married 3rd May 2013 :beer:0 -

Aside from the regular staples (eg. rice, pasta, baked beans, and of course tea/coffee, sugar and powdered milk), just buy the sort of things you like, which will keep.
There's no point in stocking up on food you don't like.
It's hard enough eating with a jaded palette, without trying to eat food you don't like the taste of.
Also, in addition to the purifying tablets, I'd suggest a gallon container of plain bleach.
Not only is it good for cleaning and disinfecting things, it's also useful for sterilising water, should you run out of sterilising tablets.
Also, I wouldn't recommend using Iodine sterilising tablets, as the Iodine builds up in the body, over time.
Chlorine based are better for long term use.0 -

I work as a social worker now - and there is far more of those people then anyone of us like to think! This geezer is smooth-talker, handsome, charming...........now a registered sex offender and jailed.
In the course of my job, I have encountered many serious offenders. They don't have any obvious signs of their vileness; sometimes all you have is a sense of wrongness.
Somebody I dealt with seemed to be very appealing; nice manners, softly-spoken, clean, tidy, handsome and fit. He sent the short hairs of my nape up and gave me cold chills, as he did of other female colleagues. He was a serial assaulter of partners and a very violent man towards women in general. On an atavistic level, we grown women recognised it, but few young girls would see past the surface.
I am so very glad that you weren't a victim.
This is the second time in 10 years someone I share a party wall with has been jailed for sexually assaulting children, and we've had several others of the same stripe in our block. They're recidivists, so they come out, get housed, and re-offend, get jailed, rinse and repeat ad nauseum.:(Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I find the pensions situation infuriating. Once you have signed up to a private pension they should be unable to alter the terms.
prepping wise e are doing reasonably well but I still need to top up the cupboards.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
