Speaking of people wasting money and complaining reminds me of a family where we used to live. She let on she was living alone with her two children who were very young. This was common knowledge, and her fella lived there too. He had a flat nearby which he "rented out" to her brother. He was getting the rent paid for him as he unemployed and when he worked it was for cash in hand. We knew all this because he would boast about it and was proud of this. She worked part time and he worked sometimes and every weekend they partied and the house was full of family and friends. One day he said hi and proceeded to take black bags to the car and the little one was dragging a bag round too and you could hear the noise of the cans and bottles. He say to me" we were decorating there but we've ran out of money, and the kids are always needing new stuff" There were quite a few people like that there.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Had a bit of a moment this afternoon, picking runner beans, an enjoyable task well suited to a lanky lass like myself. My lottie neighbour, apropros of nothing, started talking about how they thought it was important to get gardening in case of the apocalypse..............!
Darlings, I didn't know where to put my face.:rotfl:
There's something in the air, even on a lovely sunny afternoon in Englandshire, with nothing worse going on than the kids screaming obscenities at each other whilst playing football on the street.
Have been working the tiny bit of the earth's surface for which I have custodianship and managed not to dig up a toad, which has been a nerve-wracking habit of late. I did dig up a devil's coach horse, which seemed distressed about being out in the light, so I scooped it up and parked it beside the turnips, where it scuttled for cover.
I really like beetles, is that odd? I think they're kinda cute.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

It's thier feet isn't it?
Odd how many people are coming 'out' and sharing unease about life in these uncertain times isn't it? I have known an incomer couple in the village for some years now as they had an allotment near ours when they first arrived. They're slightly older than us, in thier 70s now and are independent and upright respectable professional people. Earlier this year I met Mrs at the bus stop and she was asking about our woodburner and if we could cook on it? and out it all came, they are preppers and in her words ' getting ready for the bad times'! and wanting to be able to withstand problem periods by putting in place some stores and alternative means of heating and lighting the home. I had no idea, but neither had she so now we're an unholy alliance and sharing finds of wood for both stoves (they had one put in) when we discover them and Mr and He Who Knows go with the trailer to wherever it is and collect and divide it up between themselves. She's a spinner and weaver, wheel and loom set up in her garage and an avid bread baker so with our growing and foraging knowledge and we both share a bit of medical (she's an ex nurse) and a bit of old fashioned herb law we reckon we'd cope for a while if we pooled resources should the worse come to the worse. Interesting times eh?0 -

The beetles or the footballing kids? Or the toads?
I like their busy-ness as they beetle about. There are some very pretty iridescent ones around, and lots of shield bugs and all sorts. I do like watching them.
Once lived in a basement flat which had obviously been constructed on the migratory path of beetledom. I'd be sitting on the couch and a beetle would come in under the basement door at the front of the building, scuttle down the living room, form a sharp right into the hall then a sharp left, scuttling down the hall and under the back door.
Saw it several times, mainly with devil's coach horses. No hestitation, deviation or confusion. Clearly an ancestral songline or summat.
Cute and whoo-whoo.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

About people wasting money. I think that applies to a huge spectrum of the population. Even some high earners struggle at times. Look how many celebrities go bankrupt. People in general are living beyond their means. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I'm a bit of a softie with critters (very large spiders may or may not survive a close encounter of the GQ kind, depending on how many seconds I have to see them coming and how badly I'm startled). Regularly rescue stray creatures from places like water butts and other places where I'm digging and they might get injured.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Oh dear goodness... I can't stop looking at that flamin' volcano! I don't know why, maybe just a spot of Weltschmertz, but ever since the magma started to move about I've felt that it's quite possibly one of the defining events of our era. And it's been stopping me from booking DS3 onto a flight in two weeks' time, which is just plain daft, because it'd cost three times as much to send him by train. And if it were really to go pop and cause transportation & economic mayhem, I should be making sensible preps, not just sitting admiring the lava fountains on the webcam!Angie - GC Oct 25: £290.57/£500: 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 28/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
