I think for nearly all of us the real risks are from the weather. The increased risk of flash floods as a result of climate change are being ignored will certainly affect those living in flat low lying areas. Roads getting washed away and water supplies becoming contaminated with sewage will cause problems for many.

Good point about floods. Our town had not flooded for about 20 years then we had at least three floods in the last five years.

Trying to declutter house so we can put it up for sale and downsize to something smaller, all on one level and less conspicuous.

Looks as if DH will be having lots of hospital treatments most days for the next couple of months so trying to do as much as we can while we are feeling up to things.

Bought some nice outfits as christening presents for end of September and need to start thinking of an outfit for me for end of November as MOB dressed in bin bag is not feasible.

Nearly had a canary at the price of hats so will be haunting posh sales and discount outlets whenever I get the chance.

:)elona, my Hoxfam, and a few other chazzers in town, have lovely displays of fancy wedding-appropriate hats which look just like new but for a mere fraction of the price. D'you have access to something similar?

Best wishes to hubby for the treatments, and to yourself at this difficult time.

  • ELONA some of the Oxfam shops have a dedicated 'WEDDING ROOM', my DD got her wedding dress and veil from the one when she got married last year, it might be worth seeing if there is one near enough for you to reach and looking online at the stock they have, I know she spent £280 altogether for an absolutely stunning dress. Hope you find something pretty, Lyn xxx.

I honestly think this remark is disrespectful to people who lived through the hardship of the war... and YES they should be treated as special, as they are our elders, and ALL people should be treated with respect, including youngsters that you also slated in your other post...

are you a troll??? as you were like this over on the daydream thread...
:D:D THOUGHT CROSSED MY MIND TOO we all live in an envoironment of people in authority or just "0pinionated people". BUT rather than adhere to thier opinions... i have my own. there is a breed of !!!!! stirrers that in effect bully thier opinions. this is from the upper reaches of authority to the folk on the street. Can the people that decry the old or the young for thier "indiscretions" really put thier hand on thier heart and say they have led a perfect life. perfect manners, perfect respect for every living soul they have ever encountered.... NAH ! i detest hypocrites..... thing is they have short memories and the people they HAVE upset/been ignorant to/disrespected usually have longer ones ;) but have the grace to "let things go" .... what goes round comes round......

Alibobsy.... we are fine, despite the big earthquake which hit Southern Greece. It was 5.8 and felt all over the country at 6.45 am. I slept through it for once, I usually feel them. Last night was strange though, I woke up around 5am, the whole house felt like it was alive with static electric and I could hear a booming sound underground like huge rocks falling (Nothing under us except a huge rain water tank and rock!). It unnerved me and I thought we were going to get a huge quake. It lasted for a couple of minutes then it was gone and I went back to sleep.

It has been unusually hot and muggy the last couple of weeks and I am utterly sick of it. A nice cool day with a shower of rain would be most welcome where I am concerned. The weather forecast for Italy from Sunday night is horrendous and we don't know yet if it will come this way. They have three days of bad storms with hail, flooding and 100km an hour winds to look forward to . We used to get our weather straight from them but this summer seems to be different. Our weather has changed.

We are trying to get the house and ourselves ready for a very cold winter which may have horrendous super cell storms for us. It is a long job as my husband has a bad back and has to do what he can, when he can.

Re the authorities keeping an eye on you...we have had to surrender receipts for every single purchase each year for the last few years.....including lists of food and drink and everything else we buy with every single penny we spend. It seems my frugal ways impressed someone as our taxes have gone down this year!

Hi, again. Four weeks in after surgery and I am fed up of sitting down! My heart goes out to those for whom it is a permanent situation.

Lovely husband has moved the desk so that I can watch the birds through the french windows. Unfortunately I can also see the weeds in my flowerbeds shooting through at horrendous speed.

You all chatter so quickly by the time I've thought of something pertinent to say on a subject it's been and gone.

Anyway, a question. Do any of you know of any useful courses which I could do online to keep me relatively sane whilst incapacitated. They would have to be free or very cheap.
I dislike knitting etc. (although I can do it) as I am more of an up a ladder/pushing a wheelbarrow/sanding it down sort of gal.

    Thanks in advance.
Not dim ;) .....just living in soft focus :p
