This is pretty comprehensive for the next couple of weeks...if there are any updates I will add them later on.

Had an allergic reaction to some chocolate I had last night and I think I might have to give it up, along with sugar! I am not looking forward to it but I think it has to be done. Unless they changed the recipe for after 8 mints and it now has wheat in?
I will put a teaspoon of honey in my tea until I get used to having none by cutting it down. It makes me wonder if I will be able to eat anything soon, with no gluten at all and various other things like milk and soya. It really is irritating not being able to eat like a normal person.0 -
I would be wary of the so-called long range weather forecasters. A lot of scaremongering by the Express lately. Last winter they said it would be the worst winter ever....it wasn't. Then recently we were to have the hottest August ever with dangerously high temps....we haven't.0

The ones I have been posting have been pretty spot on up till now. The express are well known for getting it wrong, but then exaggeration sells more newspapers doesn't it. All forecasts are subject to change if they are long range as the conditions change. The ones I post are usually from amateur forecasters I know . I put them on here as many have asked me to continue to post them, as they have been able to prepare for bad weather that was not forecast by the met office etc. The long range forecasts usually indicate the trends that are possible.0

I am prepared for most things but I only really look at the weather for the next few hours in terms of actually doing something. I go for a morning walk and only really need to check the conditions for that, other than that I can simply shut the windows if it gets stormy. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0

I like to try for a general level of being prepared for most things, at least in the first couple of days of anything happening that is. We have alternative lighting (several types),food and water to last for at least a week, much longer with the food, alternative means of cooking and heating so we'll still be OK if it's a cold weather cause. Medications for run of the mill things like coughs, colds, headaches, tummy upsets, sprains and strains etc. cuts and grazes. We have waterproofs, waterproof and snowproof footware, warm clothes, cool clothes, good duvets and blankets, enough supplies for the lurcher for at least 2 weeks, much stored wood for the fire, plans for every event we can imagine from power cuts to terrorist attacks and riots and escape routes on foot from the house in every direction. The best preps though are those you have by way of skills which don't take up much room, are easy to carry with you in your brain and can be applied to probelms that crop up along the way, to my mind that's the best prepping you could possibly do, learn to live like Great Grandma and maybe it will see you through!!!0

Thanks for that, going to search for the empty box in the litter bin and have a look at the tiny print on it. I had the same problem with a bottle of Bailey's!0 -

Does anyone know how I would store them for Christmas??
CTC. See if you can get hold of the ray Mear's book Wild food from the library.
He talks about the ancient way of preserving hazel nuts.
They used to char them in hot sand (cover wood coals with sand, add nuts and then cover the lot.
A year after trying to replicate the technique, the charred hazels were still good to eat whilst "fresh" ones would have long been rancid.
You could probably get a similar result if you puut them in a wok and gently cooked until the shells start to char, stirring frequently. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
My Mil gives us cob nuts from her tree. The ones we aren't going to eat immediately I shell, bag up and then freeze them. They freeze very well.0

If you live near the North Moors National Park then you need to know this.
