Actually just read another report on that Guardian page BB, about the French steelworkers fighting to save their jobs. Got me quite annoyed and ready to hit the barricades myself
Why can't govts see that if everything is all about cheapness and saving money- and everything is moved to China because of that - then what's to stop China, one day, declaring that they will no longer sell to us, or only sell to Russia, or trebling the price of everything? It's dangerous and very stupid .
I absolutely agree. I read that as well, and that, taken with quite a few other articles on similar lines lately has made me very cross. It seems like an incredibly short sighted way to behave, and how it ties in with stimulating our economy, I don't know.No spend days 2/20, Food for 5 for January £30.67/£200, Fuel/Transport £0/260, Charitable giving £20

I took advantage of MrT's delivery thingie so have a small top up shop coming tomorrow to save me going out to MrS and as my neighbour has just had a heart attack and lost his car have been in to see what shopping they need so they don't have to worry.
Mrs L where did you order from in the end as I really need to get my 9 tray ordered finally!0 -
HI all
Mrs L hope your having a ball with your new dehydrator:D
Thanks for all the info about solar panelled whotsits, my OH has got very excited about the possibilities.
I have a tiny little wind up radio that worked fine during the last power cut but the other suggestions look sturdier so ill keep them in mind.
Glad the southern peeps had a nice meet up, it is lovely to know other people understand how you feel.
I was just saying to OH this morning that i feel like im teetering on a fence, I have made some preps but the more I think about stuff and read the more I realise I need to throw myself into it a bit more (if that makes sense:rotfl:).
Hope everyone has a lovely day,
& Noo so sorry to hear your sad news xMoving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0 -
Zee I'll try to explain why we're trying to keep things more upbeat and lighthearted..There were concerns amongst posters on Oldstyle that this wasn't the place for this type of discussion, however valid, as it was scaring readers MSEAndrea has responded on the thread to say it was ok for this thread to be here so as we're trying to keep the thread relevant for Oldstyle prepping.
Thats why it may strike the more serious prepper as a bit tongue in cheek
Please do take time to read the WHOLE thread and you'll understand more and realise there are some very knowledgable preppers here

started to read this Preparedness for when the SHTF and some sensible suggestions and hints given but then forum decended into utter rubbish page after page , is there no moderator ,at least last items made sense.
ps.candles are more use than looking in woods for mushrooms.
If you'd read on further you'd have found the comment from a Board Moderator that though they'd recieved a couple of complaints about the thread it was judged to be well within the parameters and ethos of the Old Style forum. So while you're entitled to your opinion of course, there's no requirement you keep on reading if you don't wish to.Val.0 -
Generally OH and myself keep an overnight bag in our cars.
A week past Friday, I'd emptied the back of my car to maximise space for taking stuff to the tip and picking up some timber. Out came the car box and the overnight bag. Having emptied the timber, I had a cuppa before taking OH to the doctors for an appointment neglecting to put the car back into five seat mode as I was planning on another tip run the next morning.
GP referred OH to hospital for some tests, where she still is a week later. No overnight bag in my car as its still in the house where it was put earlier in the day.
Got home in the early hours when they'd decided they were admitting her, thinking at least I can grab her overnight bag from her car which will give her the basics for a hospital stay. No bag in her car and she's not well enough to tell me where it is.
Throwing a hospital bag together isn't difficult, and didn't take that long.
However, I've spent a week pondering the lessons learned. Both our cars have built in concealed storage which we don't really use. My overnight bag isn't of much use to her or hers to me. So the plan is for us to both carry the equivalent of an overnight or hospital bag for each of us broken down into the concealed storage of each car. Probably one neutral toiletries bag and an emergency clothing/pyjamas etc each.
Long rambling post and hope it illustrates the why and how of the thought process in the hope it may be of use to someone.0 -
D & DD - It was from E*ay and the service was super. The delivery courier texted us to say they would text again and give us the delivery slot time and then arrived 5 minutes into the given time! You can't ask more than that, and the driver didn't mind being jumped all over by the lurcher either, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
