:D There's such a thing as TMI, you know? I took a phone call at work from a geezer in his bath-tub, the acoustics were summat turrible.

I have a friend who goes and spends a penny while he's talking on his mobile to me. Gross, eh?

:p Yeah, we have a few customers who do this, some women, some men. You find yourself thinking that the line is a bit echo-y and then they flush the loo and we're left thinking ewwww! and wanting to wash our hands. We're all grossed-out by it, it's an instinctive reaction.

C'mon, peeps, even heads of state aren't so busy they have to call people from the bathroom.

SG just rang from the Far Side and I had a stereophonic experience of one neighbour shouting his mouth off outside and it coming thru my window and thru my phone from her end. The hot weather is taking its toll on the dispositions here, most of which aren't the sweetest at the best of times.

I mean, I'm a harridan on any day of the week......:rotfl:

:) You can chill your sheets, pre-bedtime, by putting them in the fridge. It's supposed to make them nice and cool.

Myself, I feel it might set a dangerous precedent, as my fridge and my washer stand side-by-side and I once tried to load laundry into the fridge in a scatty moment. Fortunately I wised-up before adding the washing powder, so it wasn't too messy.

A little SHTF moment for some households here, this afternoon; we had a sudden thunderstorm & truly monsoon-like downpour, which the drains totally failed to cope with, and our little town centre was inches deep in filthy black water within minutes. It was right over people's doorsteps, at a a time when most were still out at work... I waded back, luckily in flip-flops; the end of our road was under water. It didn't stay around for long but it was surreal to see the roads quite literally steaming when the sun came out again. I had to drive up & collect DS2 from his workmate's house as the town centre was impassable, and there were miniature landslides where earth & gravel from footpaths had just plain washed down across the roads.

Not something I've seen before, in 22 years here. This is no ordinary summer.

:( You're right about that one. We've had lots of trouble here. Thing is, the gulley drains along the side of the roads here aren't usually blocked, and some particularly notorious spots have been thoroughly investigated and are definately not blocked at all. What's happening is that they can't handle the huge amounts of rain which have been hammering down in short spaces of time, the water stands atop the drain, and then if the rain keeps coming, you get surface water flooding. It can come up scarily fast.

Once the thundery rain stops, the gulleys catch up with the flow, down it goes, and then the road quickly dries out and even steams.

Just a friendly word to the wise, about walking in floodwater. There can be debris that you can't see plus manhole covers may have popped out, so be careful and use a stick to probe your footing ahead of you, if possible. You will see emergency services doing this in floods.

Also, there may have been sewage mixed in with the floodwater, so please be scrupulous about your hygiene, once you get out of the water.

That's what we had here on Sunday. Very fast.

We've had no rain at all for days. I was up north for a day and took the ferry over to Mull, weather was perfect - Scotland is so beautiful with sunshine. Hit 27 in Oban, was even hot on the ferry, the wind is usually baltic on that crossing.
I just love hanging out sheets and putting them back on the bed the same day, dry and smelling of sun :)

Meant to say - on thte way up, it was miles and MILES of absolutely nothing. Peat bog and bare mountains, and I don't see at all how anybody could possibly survive up there after the SHTF. It would take years to get that land fit for cultivation and you'd starve trying. Is so sad to see the glens all empty and deserted too.
