:) Heh, I still think if you haven't got some wings and dings from childhood misadventures, you weren't outdoors enough. Sez a woman with several scars and two broken bones (or one broken bone done twice on different years).

I have been oot on errands this aft and have had to watch out for the i-diots with their i-phones, walking along on busy pavements and crossing roads without due care and attention. No end of them, it's like watching people living in a daze, totally disconnected from their surroundings. Communication is so compelling that you have to be connected 24/7? Can't even walk down the road without it?

Betcha muggers have never had it so easy.

Then the next mad bubble was all the smug types who went about saying "My money's in Iceland!"....Hmmm :D

Mine was in Iceland for the brilliant interest rate. I daren't tell you guys how much. I had a day or two of feeling sick as a parrot when the Iceland banks collapsed. Thank God for Alistair Darling guaranteeing all deposits.

When that deal ended, I bought flats with the money. (I wouldn't dream of borrowing to buy, GQ :) )

:) And I'm very glad to hear it, jk0. Wouldn't like to think of any of our online family were over-exposed (ooo-err, missus).

My pal with the student houses - almost 50 of them - admits to being leveraged to the hilt and jokes that if it all goes wrong, the fallout will be something along the lines of a South American country defaulting. Let's hope it doesn't go pear-shaped for their sake...............

If that happened now you would be lucky to get much of your money back. Bail-ins are now the policy going forward.

Oh, I know. I was just musing that of course Iceland was the first bail-in. It's only the UK's guarantee that saved me from being penniless.

Now my remaining money is split between four banks.

    Edit: This is worrying:

Previously, the Austrian province of Carinthia had guaranteed the bank, but incredibly the new legislation declares that guarantee to be invalid retroactively. This then invalidates the transfer of that guarantee to the Austrian state when the bank was nationalized in 2009.

The retrospective bail-in of a state guarantee in respect of subordinated debt is unprecedented in this context.

That will effect Irish creditors like RBS which has £46 Billion at stake.

Personally if I had enough money to worry about I would keep the sums in banks well below the guaranteed limit incase they change the limits while the banks are closed over say a bank holiday weekend. Though with interest rates so low I personally think it might be safer in a mattress or safe at home rather than in a bank.

The new rules mean that all depositors are only unsecured creditors.

:( That's a sobering thing, over in Austria. And we have truly gone down the rabbit hole into Wonderland when rules are changed and the changes applied restrospectively, when it suits them.

Time-travelling legislation?! They really are getting desperate now. What this will ensue is that thoughtful and aware people will keep the absolute minimum in their bank account. I have removed some more of mine today, leaving enough for the bills with a good margin, but no more than I could lose without the pips squeaking.

ETA Bob, probably about the same at my gaff, it is like a sauna here.

:D There's such a thing as TMI, you know? I took a phone call at work from a geezer in his bath-tub, the acoustics were summat turrible. I'm just flitting between the kitchen where I'm batch cooking (I'm a fool) and some personal admin.

Bliddy neighbour who has been blasting music since 9 am has just shut it down, which is fortunate, as there are some geezers on the floor above him who punch first and tell you to shaddup afterwards.

Hmm, mebbe someone did smack the get one, can't say I'm sorry if they did.
