  • We are all entitled to a little fun in our lives from time to time, I am another who feels guilty for spending money on myself, but DH says if we can't have a little fun then their is no happiness in our lives and if that is life then we have arrived at a very sorry state in this country.

We went to a BBQ this weekend and we splashed out on a bottle of wine (which I cringed at the price of it) and I made a huge cheese cake, now my cheesecakes are six times deeper than one you get from the shops and costs approx £5 to make but it does feed 16 people with a very generous portion and are world famous in my area
Total cost for our night out was £12 so not bad for two of us, everyone brings something to the party and everyone always has a brilliant night.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Yes having a treat every now and then is what helps us in the long run. If you are saving up for something expensive it is all worth it in the end. Though you will still need little treats along the way.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

Today something called 'The Executioner' arrived in the post.
It looks like a harmless tennis racket but don't be fooled. It deals instant death to flying insects which get zapped with an electrical charge.
Not to be used on animals or people!! (the dog, when I was running amok with it, sensibly got out the way). I guess it wouldn't kill anyone but it might be rather shocking :D
Purchased for self defence - from flying insects naturally ;)

Little tip : if you have Excel on your computer and you've done this - rather than re-type a whole load of text : open up a new sheet and paste the text into a cell. In the cell next to it type =lower( , then click on the cell you pasted the original text in and then type ) and hit return . The new cell should now have a copy of the original text in it in lower case which you can copy and paste back over the original ALLCAPS text.

I think you can do something similar in word as well, not sure about open office but I expect it'll have something similar.

All the people I've ever worked with have become familiar with my curse of "Dratted CAPSLOCK!" uttered whenever I've been typing too fast to pay attention....:o
thank you for that I have taken note for future mess ups. sorry it took so longgetting back to you. not been online for days, away to catch up on thread thanks again.

Just a quick heads-up that my local (normally expensive) garden centre has all seeds on half price, so I have just stocked up on some lettuce and oriental greens, etc. which should see us through to Christmas (or beyond if it's another mild winter)under a bit of protection. Loads of goodies at 99p a packet ...... could really help save some money, and keep us in fresh salad greens.
I harvested the blackcurrants yesterday and now have lots of containers of delicious syrup in the freezer, full to bursting of vitamin C.
    Redcurrants next....

I'm pleased with myself, I harvested the fruit, or most of it and I now have 4 large jars of strawberry jam, 3 large red currant jelly and 4 gooseberry. Just the black currents and more gooseberry to do. When they ripen that is.
How long do you keep your strawberry plants for before discarding them? Am I right in thinking 3 to 4 years? I always do the runners, which is why I have so many plants even after giving loads away.

:) Re strawberries, I usually reckon 3-4 years but I don't discard them, I dig them up and move them and the bigger gnarly plants are tugged apart into two or three plants and planted on separately.

I divvied up and transplanted the old bed over winter and early spring, so most of them were weans this year. I'm constantly de-suckering them to make them keep their energy in the plant and they're forming into biggish plants with lots of new growth, so I have high hopes for next year. Lots of runners were potted on and given away - karma, I reckon, as a fellow allotmenteer gave me the original 6 runners from whence all this bounty came.

Back from the lottie and bathed and achy-backed but happy. First sunny day in absolutely ages. I've had the autumn-sown broad beans up, stripped the dried out pods into my biggest trug and will shell them tomorrow or Weds. Started clearing the bean patch of weeds which had grown up amongst the stems. Quelle horreur, there were even baby oak trees in there!

:pBob, you really must control this bizarre fantasy you have of me.

I'm a plain lookin' lass and I'm wilful, bliddy-minded and highly opinionated - in short, the nightmare woman not the dream one.

The reason Da Management would like to clone me is my smooth speaking voice, 100% quality scoring, impeccable timekeeping, and ability to think around corners.

Got told the other week (admiringly) by a customer that I'd make a good hostage negotiator.............:rotfl:Dammit, they never mentioned that one in the careers service (wanders off to search for new job opportunities).

Oh, and I occasionally get asked if I'm real/ human. On account of the fact that I can sound like an automated system, I guess.
