Tessasmum: Jedi hugs. No easier even when it's on the cards.

Evenin' all. Firstly: Low tech approaches to SHTF... well, apart from the odd plastic bag ;)http://dansweigert.wordpress.com/2014/07/11/no-tech-no-problem/

Secondly: Excellent programme on consumerism. Part 1; planned obsolescence.

I watched that last night, makes me even more determined not to have the latest 'must-haves'.

:) I'm visiting the folks this weekend and glanced over the TV schedule (they have a set but watch very little, I gave up owning a TV in 1987) and found that. We watched it- good use of an hour of my time and sparked some interesting discussions.

Standing in a line for 15 days to buy the latest bit i-carp?! Bonkers. Get a life, not a gadget.

Tonight Dad wants to watch the footie so the rest of us are going to play Scrabble in another room because we loathe football soooo much.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

    Another bit of prepping done....

Chiminea bought, so if I have no electricity or gas, I can still cook food even if it's raining or snowing.

Just need to stock up on some logs now.....and am having a chiminea night next saturday for a friend for us to try it out....pizza and chicken skewers etc. I haven't managed to get it out of car yet as so heavy, will have to wait until tomorrow and someone is around to help me...

Yay...cant wait to try it out, and mate is making the pizza dough in her bread machine.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

I just watched that. I must be a nightmare for advertisers. :)

I certainly didn't feel the need to buy a Swatch watch, perhaps due to being hard up in the eighties.

Also, have never been in an Ikea or Apple Store, and most of my furniture is second hand or inherited.

Oh, I'll go into Ikea, when I need something basic, sturdy & reasonably well-designed, that I can't find secondhand - we have some Ikea pieces that we've had since the Wembley store first opened 25+ years ago & they are still going strong, doing the job & looking good, despite 5 kids having grown up amongst them. And I do have some Apple products, the thing I'm posting on now being one of them; I'm perfectly happy to have owned & used a computer for 4 years with no virus problems & no appreciable slowing up. So happy, that when DS1 replaces his 5 y.o. Mac with a Macbook in a couple of months, because his working needs demand more processing power & portability, I'm buying it from him to add to the family network in place of an incredibly slow & buggy Wind0ws 7 PC.

That said, I'm watching the programme with incredulity - interrupted by some dratted footy game - I shall never look at a lightbulb in the same way again!
