Is she also the local Google of drugs? :rotfl:
Yeah. We know who deals around here. There was more than one geezer selling weed, she helpfully directed him to the nearest door. Mostly it's just weed, occasionally we have a crack house running, but not atm.
SG knows that the 'erberts don't like being clocked by anyone who looks alert enough to describe them to the Polis, so if they look suss, she'll make sure they know that she's seen them, and they often slink off.
One day, she stepped out of her flat and heard a bloke in the stairwell on his mobile discussing a major deal (not a resident), we're talking by the kilo. She peeped thru the bannisters, clocked him without being seen, slipped quietly indoors and called it in. Polis nabbed him minutes later.
Going rate was £200/ kilo heroin, £250 for crystal (meth, presumably). A true Old Styler keeps up with prices, even of things not actually on the shopping list. :rotfl:
ETA fuddle, these kettles are under £3 new and I have seen them in immaculate condition secondhand, for 50p or £1, countless times. Hardly posh kit. I use a steel stovetop kettle on a day to day basis on my gas stove, but I have an old (but functional, check it from time to time) electric jug kettle which is a back-up in case the gas cooker is down but the leccy is on. And I have the kelly kettle as the back-up for that, and am a few meters from silver birch trees with copious amounts of twigs for fuel.
Although I'm prepared to concede the point that a KK is an expensive piece of kit, regular stovetop kettles are available for less than a portion of chips secondhand.

I got a massive aga kettle (with the metal radiating fins on the bottom) that I use outdoors on the OzPig for 50p at the local jumble sale, it's a bit old and battered and it's a bit furred up inside but I've cleaned it up and out as much as I can and it still boils water, makes tea, lets me wash up or have hot water when I've got the stove lit and is not a thing of beauty but PRACTICAL!!! which is all I care about!!!0

Just butting if for a sec. Re the kettle v pan debate: you need to take into account the specific heat capacity of your proposed pan v a stove top kettle. I have a stove top kettle that has far less mass than my pans, so would never use my pans for heating water (time and energy but esp time) A camp stove with low energy use makes this even more important. The very best device for heating water in shtf scenario is a lightweight purpose build camp kettle0

I guess in an extreme situation you'd just use whatever you had wouldn't you? and for all the carefully laid plans, supplies, equipment, etc. that we debate and chew over together a SHTF event can't be guaranteed to happen when our preps are complete and we're safely indoors with our loved ones can it? It could be anywhere, any time and under any set of circumstances where your skills and wits would be all you had and in that situation even an empty tin can would heat you water on a fire of twigs!!! that is if you can get it lit!0

Seem to have started a great discussion here about the kettle v pan on a camping stove scenario...
Fuddle if the SHTF l would have no probs using my 'posh' kettle at all. Commonsense and all that. Am looking at having a declutter on ebay and may actually invest in a KellyKettle as another cooking/heating of water source. When the electricity goes off you do have a rethink and l would feel more secure that l could provide for my family with an alternative cooking source.

Typing on a tablet so apologies for fat fingers and lack of punctuation. If you get a lightweight camping kettle get it in black. If you have somewhere outdoors you can stand it in the sun you can get really quite warm water from it almost warm enough to wash self or crockery in and even if it doesn't get that hot it would still cut down the time and fuel required to heat itIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Popping back in to agree that in shtf situation, I agree I wouldn't be picky about pan v kettle if I didn't have one.
My whistling kettle is 23 years old (used to have a caravan many moons ago) and I did think about throwing it in the bin, but being a canny Scot I put it back in the cupboard along with my little gas stove etc - just in case.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

That is exactly what I am saying.
Heck I have a camping kettle too :rotfl: Why did I get it? Because it's safer for boiling and pouring, it's safer on the boil with kids around, it saves gas on boiling because the whistle alerts us immediately and it's precision in pouring means no wasted water through spillage.
All I am saying is that I don't need a kettle if SHTF because I have a pan.0
