Surely was Bob and I wasn't joking either, wood is good, and hopefully there will always be wood, so I was agreeing, no offence intended, just yes, wood is good, Lyn x.
Did you alter your post Bob? I could have sworn it said wood perhaps when I read it, tell me I'm not imagining things now? as my last post now makes no sense at all does it?0 -

Actually I did (you must've been lightening fast reading it, as I changed it about 1 minute after I originally posted it), in response to frugalsod's comment about wood.Wood would definitely become unviable in such an extended crisis.
I thought your comment "Yup, the old ones are the best ones, it's the way you tell 'em!!!" was in relation to The Good Life.0 -
Phew!!! I thought my one little brain cell was malfunctioning again!!! Thanks for reassuring me!!! Lyn x.0

Just a quick hello to anyone who remembers me on this thread. I left for Thailand and worked there for eight months, but have now returned to my home in Greece again. We thought that the S was going to hit the fan with the political situation and left in good time to avoid the military coup.
To cut a long story short, my husband was ill with his back and a reaction to medication and they withdrew insurance cover due to his age. In breach of what they promised us before I took the job . One of many promises they broke.T o add insult to injury I had a boss from hell to contend with.
I am glad we left when we did. I had an amazing time in Thailand and loved the Thai people, they were wonderful, always smiling and happy with their lot in life. I also came back a Buddhist!
I have returned to prepping since I got back to Greece and my stocks are back up to where they were before we moved to Thailand.I have a strong feeling that we are on the verge of something very big happening all over the world, and it won't be good....
Hope you are all well and busy prepping. Do the old regulars still come on here or has there been a vast change of personalities?“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
Hello 2tonsils, so nice to "see" you! :hello: Shame things didn't work out in Thailand, but I bet it was a brilliant experience. Are you back in the same place in Greece, or somewhere new?
I've been a bit remiss with prepping lately, but getting on with it again. DH and DS22 have gutted the garage today, 2 trips to the tip loom, half garden waste, half broken toys etc., then I can see shelves and floor, and...I have SPACE TO PUT PREPS!! Sorry for the caps, but I am so excited to have some more space - is it a bit sad? :rotfl:
Today I planted most of my spuds, very late but better than not at all, set some peas to germinate, hope they can go in by the end of the week, and dug over another bed ready for something else. Also checked on my local bramble sources (council has been known to "prune" rather severely at the wrong time of year!) and all seems well. My tinned/dried goods need rotating and sorting out, then adding to PDQ. I'm teaching myself to knit and crochet this summer, and am on the look out in the CS for blankets, jumpers/fleeces for all (or to cannibalise in various ways) and cheap wool. I'm also going to buy extra small tools like hammers, screwdrivers, hand gardening tools, potato peeler, secateurs, kitchen knives, etc., and store them inside somewhere safe and dry. I'd rather be looking at them than looking for them if the SHTF.

Hi Tonsils yes we're all still here.
Had a hellish week meself with trigeminal neuralgia and then a total wipe-out. Couldnt see properly or get off the couch or even talk without slurring. Starting to feel more human today though.0 -
Hope you feel better quickly Mar.
Nice to see you 2Tonsils, sorry Thailand didn't work out. Hope your DH is OK.0 -

I am newish here. So welcome back though technically I am the newbie.
I do agree that things are looking hairy all over the world. Longer term I see revolutions and civil wars on a much larger scale than we have experienced for a while. The rise of the far right will probably continue all over Europe and eventually we might see mass migration again as minorities are hounded from their homes. The time scale is debatable. I did see one comment on a blog about unrest and eventually wars starting in a few years before major wars start mid next decade. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

My uncle told my mum he just booked a holiday in Turkey because it's cheaper than last year.Uncle doesn't read the papers so has no idea about the civil unrest there. I bet it's cheaper still in Ukraine!

Welcome back 2tonsils. Glad you had a good time in Thailand, the Thai people I've come across have always appeared to be friendly bunch (as indeed do the Greeks) and it sounds as though Thailand is in not so good a place with the recent military coup. Mostly the same crowd posting here I think with a few newbies popping up here and there. Interesting times here in the UK with the possibility of the Scots departing and anti-EU parties doing well in the recent elections. Waiting for the 2015 election for the big event here I think - despite all the talk the coalition government have made very little in the way of cuts but that will have to change if they are serious about balancing the budget or even spinning out the fantasy a little longer. Maybe we should all move to Greece....0
