I think all politicians should be forced to work for 6 months in a menial job.. shelf stacking or cleaning, and then they might realise what life is actually like. I read today that Cleggie had vetoed a crackdown on knife crime. But he or his wife never have to walk around in dark streets in dodgy areas do they? So why should his view count at all? He's got a limo and a driver to take him everywhere - and he's determines to hang onto that by his fingernails too, he isn't going to go until he's kicked out.0

I have put cayenne pepper down and it hasn't stopped the little burger, does anyone know how to deter cats?
I find a greyhound does the trick! They also deter moles, badgers, deer and wild rabbits. Hopeless at keeping the ****ing pigeons off newly planted things though, and their penchant for little running things could cause problems with the neighbours.
For some reason next door's suicidal white rabbit tunnelled through the hedge to get to my weeds. I've had to explain to them that if their rabbit keeps sunbathing on my lawn there's unlikely to be a happy ending but they will save on rabbit feed. They've been a bit better about not letting it escape since we had that conversation!0 -

I'm well impressed with the tiny size and weight.
I am looking at the Sawyer 4L drip version which will be perfect to fill a hydration pack and a flask. It uses gravity to filter the water but more expensive. The mini looks like an excellent buy though. Compact enough to keep with you all the time. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

While a menial job will never get adopted a better solution would be to disqualify anyone with a salary or wealth more than say 3 to 5 times the median. Also have a residency requirement that means that they have to live in a constituency for 3 years to be able to represent it. That would stop them parachuting in party favourites over the wishes of local party members. Link their pay to the median wage as well. So any party who wants to crush wages for the low paid will be hitting their own pocket as well. A government full of millionaires is hardly going to create laws that will hurt them and will prefer to pass all the pain onto the rest of us.
Though they are all in the pay of the super rich and so only really listen to us when they need our votes. So cap the maximum that any one can give to £1000 a year and imprison anyone who breaches that and you can clean up politics quickly. It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -

The LED bulb I bought from ALDI (see post # 22636), has been in use in my LR, for a week or so, and I have to admit, I'm quite impressed with it.
On turning the switch on, it's up to full brightness pretty much instantly.
The brightness and colour temperature are very good and, on occasion, I completely forget it's not an incandescent bulb.
Looks like I may be investing in a few more (bedroom, hallway and stairs), together with socket adapters.0 -
My dad swears by putting a mothball down the mole hole. They can't stand the smell and move on.0 -
