2T remind me how your water/sewers work out there? Would the powercuts affect tap water as it does over here or sewerage?
Good call on the having cash because of the ATM's, also shops will they be closing or open for business as cash only transactions?
I presume landlines will also be affected and if you have smoke alarms wired in to the mains may be worth putting in battery backup if possible..just trying to run through it in my head for you to cover all scenarios..
Hi, our water is pumped up from underground springs to the mains but it is not drinking quality , which we get from other tested springs in the village in containers. So we always have four 15 litre containers of drinking water in the house, plus bottles of water. We also have a water tank of filtered rain water under the house that we can use by pulling it up with a bucket from the access in the kitchen, but not for drinking.
we are on mains drains but most houses use septic tanks that it flows into so that is not a problem. Our house phone works on wifi that runs on batteries and hooks up to the mobile signal so that still works in most power cuts. Other alarms/smoke alarm etc are all battery.
The shops and banks will be shut as they have to have light and tills working to be allowed to open here...the same applies to all business so most tavernas would be closed as well unless they were hidden away in a village in the middle of nowhere. That's going to make life tough for the tourists...
I just thought of the chaos with no traffic lights...they are terrible drivers even with the lights working! Might be worth staying at home off the roads if the power is off.....
Looking forward to using my solar/dynamo torch with lcd lights...its ace!!!! and I love candle light...how romantic!:A“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. we need to get away from debt based economies to find a solution
what did Argentina do post default? I've never looked into it, but heard some people talking about Argentina a few days ago.Hi, you might want to look at this blog about Argentina http://ferfal.blogspot.co.uk/. I think the condensed answer is that the current Argentine government is tightening a viselike grip on its people, making it impossible to own foriegn currency, buy gold (to hedge against the devaluation of the peso) and is awash with corruption.
Of course, this is one person's viewpoint but Argentina has a very long history of corruption and a cavalier attitude to defaulting on international debts, I believe. The comments on each post are very interesting, too.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

street lights if there are any will presumably be affected too 2T which may be challenging! Wonder if the crime rates will go up under cover of darkness/lack of alarmed property :eek:0 -
I purchased my first TV License in April but may not bother next year(through choice)but may not be able to afford one anyhow.
But in that situation as far as I understand as long as a TV is not switched on they can't do you...they know it's on because they take some kind of picture/graph some kind of frequency. I suppose another way is if the TV is warm."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

 Keep safe on those roads, 2tonsils; I have had some narrow squeaks on mountain roads in Crete where every corner seems to have a candle-lit shrine to some poor soul who has died on the road there. Last time I was over there, a minibus of us was almost forced off a mountain road when a 4 x 4 came around a blind bend on the wrong side of the road.
Language was heard and it sure wasn't ladylike!
Keep yourselves safe and well and come back to tell us the news when the power is back. Be thinking of you, hun.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I won't know when the power is cut till it happens! I doubt there will be much problem with crime as its still a very safe place to live. The street lights were put on short time a long time ago to save money lol, at least half of them are turned off to save cash.
If I go out at night I am usually in the car but will be taking my torch with me...its a bit too modern looking though, all my friends keep thinking its a new touch screen mobile phone lol.:rotfl:“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. I have one wind up torch and a similar keyring with a winduo torch. I have a head torch but it takes batteries still haven't found a good wind up lantern or perhaps I should have more than one...
I think the stamps were stopped but they know try to get you pay by Direct Debit or I think that you can pay at one of the those Pay Point terminals...
I used to be such a tv fan but now I miss so much and yet just in case I do watch via a tv rather than catch up on the internet I have a new monitor for my desktop PC and a new LCD TV for the lounge just because I may not be able to afford to in the future and the TV I have is 30 years old and wearing out. I love my radio though.

That's how it stands at present but they'll close that loophole eventually. Thanks Sophlowe."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
