Hi all,
Been trying to keep up with all that is going on but pesky RL has been getting in the way:D but caught up now.
Thriftwizard so glad mum is better,
Nuatha, sending some hugs for Mrs N hope she starts to feel better soon.
The yellow shining ball has made a very welcome visit over the last few days, which has made a huge difference to the seedlings.
I managed to get a copy of Homegrown revolution at a vastly reduced price the other day so have been oohing and aahing at some more unusual vegetables and flowers. So many of them wouldnt be taken for being edible if you saw them in the garden, which I rather like the thought off, bit like having secret ninja veg:rotfl:.
Right better get back to the grindstone (and not in an exciting grinding flour kind of way).
Take care

My Kelly Kettle has arrived:D Think I'm going to have to boil a few lots of water before I can use it for hot drinks as it seems a bit dusty inside. Looking forward to playing later so long as OH doesn't nab it first.
A couple of things caught my eye last night and this morning whilst bumbling around the net. Can't remember who mentioned the Yellowstone running byson story but following the largest quake in Yellowstone for years back on 30th March Idaho has been hit by swarms of small ones (have been watching how things go by checking in at RSOE) Today there's talk of earthquakes and eruptions imminent.

Another story of concern is about the missing vials of sars virus. No cause for concern they say, but then they always play these things down don't they.

Hope everyone's enjoying the sun. Off to play outdoors:D0 -

Well I've never ever been called a trendy before ... That's a whole new experience for me0

Sooo - we're all rich again now, apparently!
Wage rises match inflation
Add that to the galloping property prices - does anyone actually believe in all this? Seems like a giant confidence trick to me...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Yeah, and what about all those staple foods which cost anything from 40-100% more than they did in 2008? They can happy-talk all they like in the meeja but it doesn't tally with our RL experience, does it?
Mum and I were talking about this only the other night on the phone and she's been remarking for some time that it's taking £300 to buy what £200 used to (grocery wise) a few years ago.
I'm continuing to do my level best to make every £ scream for murphy. I cracked a good joke earlier about something; told someone that buying new stuff was against my religion. Yup, I come clean, I am a Tightwadist.
Our sect is growing in numbers every day, I reckon.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Every once in a while I'm apparently on trend - I keep doing what I do and fashion briefly passes by as it recycles trends. Generally its not much more than an inconvenience, but sometimes it makes the things I want more accessible.ive still to have a pay rise, not had one in over 5 years now ... must be about 6 or 7 years tbh
My hourly rate has fallen in actual amounts, let alone accounting for inflation. Several friends and Herself have seen no payrise in six years.Yeah, and what about all those staple foods which cost anything from 40-100% more than they did in 2008? I used to keep a pricebook, it was a handy way of planning ahead, budgeting and knowing when to buy some goods (as well as just how much of some staples I was actually using. I stopped doing so in 2001, there was no discernible pattern to prices other than up. Currently I regret not keeping it going, but I suspect it would be seriously depressing to see just how much basic food items have risen in 10, 20 and 30 years.
I was recently quoted £14 for a Kilo of mackerel, I used to pay less than that for 2 stone (£6/stone) in 2002.
If rising prices also meant a higher standard of living, I suspect few people would complain, but it seems that the actual producers get less than they used to and the middle men are making the profits while ordinary folk suffer the consequences.
I think I'll be working on a new pricebook, one that details normal and offer prices to help shop for bulk food at the best price I can find.0 -

Most of those apparently don't count as essentials when working out inflation GQ. Whereas shiny gadgets (which come down in price as they become mainstream and production achieves economies of scale) clearly do. (although DVD players are out and Netflix is in)
