MrsL - could we have some delicious weevil recipes please?

You mean like Baldrick's Rat au Van? :D
  • Weevilbaldi Biscuits? Crunchy Spotted !!!!!!? Weevil Seed Cake? it was going to be pizza base but I didn't spot the little devils until I got the dough out of the breadmaker, not many of them but enough to make me throw it away and start again with a fresh pack of flour. I sieved the new flour just in case but it seems fine. The one affected was a strong white bread flour from Mr.T and I've had weevils in brown rice from Mr.T too so I won't be buying flour, rice or pulses from there again!!!Rat au Vin now theres something I'd definately serve crunchy weevil bread with!!! Lyn xxx.

MAR all my remaining flour is now in the freezer in sealed bags for 48 hours as a precaution and I'll be doing this with all cereals, flour, rice and pasta from now on!!!
  • Another report on the fact that the dead banksters etc were all going to blow the whistle, which makes me more prone to believe that they were murdered.

The house of cards is wobbling precariously and I am another who thinks the brown stuff will hit the fan in April.

  • I am sooo excited this morning, my neighbour was dismantling his greenhouse and DH just got home from work and saw it, he offered to help him and asked why he was taking it down, they said that they were going to take it to the tip :eek::eek:
Well DH is as preptastic and frugal as us on here so he said Burrefry wants a greenhouse, so neighbour said then she is welcome to it :A DS is not at college today so the three of them took one of the fence panels out and brought it through the garden and now I can start looking at getting some seeds sown because they have a nice shelter. :j

Excellent advice there, and on that last point - that is why I have banned myself from Approved Foods... I have some very questionable bargains in the storecupboard that I really hope we never have to eat!

I found that I ate all the really bad things fast and piled on the pounds. I am now slowly eating every thing else but will not be buying cakes or sweets from Approved foods for that very reason. My last shop was my first with them and so it was more as a trial for me. The deals are very good, and I bought loads of couscous which has given me some more meal options. My next order with them will be much simpler.

What are you thinking of? It's extra protein!
On our African travels we found weevils in some bread we had bought. We ate it anyway. Hadn't seen bread for ages

I always freeze the flour for a day to kill anything in there before putting the bags into my airtight drums. Never had any problems so far.

Seems that the dead and missing were about to blow some whistles.....we're heading towards the endgame, I think. Don't keep too much money in the banks, particularly with bank holidays in the offing this Spring.

I have been warning people about Deutsche Bank for three years now. The problems were in their loans across Europe. They have been lending aggressively to the periphery because there was no demand at home. They have hundreds of billions in bad debts across Europe and all the bailouts have actually been bailouts of Deutsche bank and the other big core banks. RBS got a £46 billion bailout courtesy of the Irish. Deutsche are even more exposed. Their derivative books are probably far worse than we expect, because even though many deals will be netted out there will be counter party risk and if any of those failed then they cannot net off those bets. They are operating on a heads I win, tails you lose basis. Plus they have been allowed to trade to build up their capital. Though because they have to pay the "market rates" for traders they are losing most of the gains to the traders.

Barclays are also big derivative traders and have exactly the same problems. They are proud that they did not need a bailout from the Bank of England but they got a big bailout from the US Fed via its bailout of AIG, and the other US banks. Without this they would have been in the same position as RBS.

Have just been to pick up DS2 & his brand-new, "good quality" bike to go to the bike shop for mending. The pedal has sheared clean off. Was a tad surprised to see, just down their road, water fountaining up from underneath the tarmac, where there's been a mend. They're 80m above sea level there (we're only 20) - I'm assuming that's a spring line, not where the water table's got up to?!

Scary stuff re the banks. I knew we'd only put off the moment of reckoning in 08, but will they pull something out of the hat again? Or are they frantically trying to shore up something that's too big & too wobbly to keep going any longer? A bit like the railway at Dawlish?
