Torches still lit, but brightness is well down, especially the large hand torch.0

Woohoo!
Was thrilled to bits on Christmas Eve when we received a £350 rebate from N-Power. (Overpayments obviously, so it's our money, but still...)
It just got better though; our monthly payment has been reduced from £83 to £10! All that time and effort getting the insulation up to scratch might just have been worth it. :rotfl:Avoiding plastic, palm oil, UPF and Nestlé0 -
Just walked the lurcha and managed to dash back up the road just in time to miss a hail shower I'd seen coming across the river as a very dark cloud. The river is unbelieveably high, the salt marshes are covered , the water is lapping the bottoms of the gardens of the houses that back onto them and the wind is driving water upstream, if we get much more rain I think they'll have problems. The ground here is so waterlogged that it's turning to soft mud and the ditches along the lanes are half full of run off water, not a good position to be in in the face of what is predicted for Saturday/Sunday is it? I saw many rocky trees, I know some have come down already as yesterday we passed a couple of clean up operations by tree surgeons, I have a horrible feeling that some of the bigger older oaks in the area will go if we get a very high wind tomorrow, I hope I'm wrong. Looks like it's going to be a difficult few days so look after yourselves preppers, and try to stay out of mischief!!! Lyn xxx.0

That's amazing.
Is that for gas or electricity?0 -

It's both so there's an automatic discount for that and for paying by DD. In fairness, although we received a rebate, we're still in credit so it's not an absolutely true reflection of usage as the plan is to reduce the credit over time. We're happy to do it this way though and the monthly saving will be going into the Holiday Fund.Avoiding plastic, palm oil, UPF and Nestlé0 -

Wow...
I think I hate you!
Me too!
Although it does give me great pleasure that someone out there isn't keeping the shareholders in such opulent dividends as my monthly extravaganza of a direct debit is managing to achieve.
thenanny Could I ask what work you've done on your insulation? I've made some progress with ours, but I'd love to know what you think has made the biggest difference.0 -
Afternoon all.
Been to w*rk and can report that there are panel fencing lying down on the job all over the place. Blinking things. I bet they don't use them very much in the highlands and islands or, if they did, they'd be over the sea to Norway before you could say boo.
MrsLW, glad you made it in before the hail. Parents had a hailstorm, too, but not seen any here yet. Weather is switching very rapidly between rainstorms and brief sunny spells with clear blue sky but it's very unstable and changes almost by the minute.
Sounds a bit worrying about the water in your river; are you personally near to it?
craigyw, glad you're OK and hope everyone else is dry and warm.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

MrsL I think I am more worried about what is happening with our weather than the economy. I think perhaps desirable riverside and sea front properties are no longer so desirable.
I refer everyone to Piers Corbyn's Weather Action site. Don't be put off by the tacky graphics!

GQ I tend to use trellis - then I can grown plants up it for privacy in the summer and in the winter it is open to allow the gales to blow through - still lose some occasionally though! If it isn't nailed down heavily here the wind takes it - you know, sheds, bins, small children, little old ladies :rotfl:
Our one road in/out is closed by the police due to flooding - we're all safe though, but it's really windy and wet here! Am looking forward to our usual spell of dry, still frosty weather if it comes, prior to a windy spring.
