  • If that big rock did fall and cause a Tsunami, how high, above sea-level, do they anticipate it would reach, in the UK?

10 to 20 metres according to YouTube. I guess we should be concerned about the nuclear power stations around the coast of the UK, particularly in view of Fukushima.

:p But you might end up with a luvverley glow. Said by a woman who was living in eastern Scotland at the time of Chernobyl. Being advised not to go out in the rain because it's radioactive made quite an impression at the time.

I've long wondered if Cumbre Vieja did slip its moorings, what would the msm tell the rest of us? Particularly if a mega-tsunami was in danger of reaching heavily-populated shores in Europe inc us, and over in the Americas?

My prediction is, should you be on the eastern seaboard of the USA and see a lot of small corporate jets taking to the skies all at once - be very very afraid.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

:T Oh good on ya, BB, I bet they'll love it. I'm mad keen on my archery and can't wait til the club is open again in Jan.

I was wondering if there would be a bow-making course somewhere accessible to me that I could do instead of a "summer holiday" so will look into that next year. I like the thought of being able to wander into the woods and construct a bow-and-arrows.

There's something about the simple things in life which are incredibly soothing and empowering. On my bushcraft course a couple of years ago, I enjoyed standing in the woods with a knife in one pocket, a folding saw in the other, and feeling competant to turn trees into shelters, pot hangers, cook fires, spoons and all that jazz. Not to mention turning nettles into string and soft rushes into rushlights and mattressess.

Hokay, time to check out the wilder edges of finance at Zer0 Hedge. Word is, the biggest financial disaster since The Great Depression is probably incoming mid-Jan. Be sure to book tickets to watch and don't leave too much folding stuff in the bank accounts. Just in case anyone gets creative about Cyprussing.

They'll have beggar-all luck seizing my money, as I spent it all on slow horses, cheap teabags and tins of tommies.:rotfl:
I'm sure we're heading for another crash, house prices are rising despite the fact that no ordinary person can afford them and interest rates are going to start rising (hopefully not too fast). The FTSE100 is pushing steadily towards 7000 for the first time in years and for no sensible reason, for those who take an interest in such things. If it were purely a Uk problem, I'm sure TPTB would try to delay any catastrophe until after the Scots referendum and the 2015 election but since it's a global thing, it's anyone's guess when things will take a turn for the worse.

Evening preptastic peeps, hope you've all had a break from the norm over the last few days, whatever shape that break takes.

BB, thanks for the free k!ndle links, all safely stored on my devices. :D

Have had a very lazy few weeks, prep-wise, but will get going again properly after the weekend. We escaped the worst of the weather, although other parts of town have had ancient trees go down, roofs blown off, etc. DS took a pic down at the lowest part of our village of a couple of teenagers in a canoe paddling down what's usually tarmac!

Thanks, too, GQ, for the heads up about the onions; am off to those type of shops tomorrow so will look out for a bag or three. I am planning to grow more edible plants this year, our garden floods regularly at the bottom, due to the houses higher up the road having patio'ed and decked their gardens over the years, so am thinking more of raised beds, large tubs, sharing my SiL's large garden, and other schemes. SiL has arthritis and it's getting hard for her, so it will benefit us both to grow together, her advising, me doing the hard labour, :rotfl:

    A xo

apart from making sure there is only pennies in our bank accounts, just enough to cover SO and DD. how are you going to prep for this?

I think if it doesn't happen soon, it will happen at one point...to me I relate to it as an bad open wound that the government just keep on putting a sticky plaster over, but it should have been seen to asap. but it doesn't matter how many plasters you put on it... the infection has set in... and its only a matter of time before it gets to a point where there is nothing you can do about it...

Can I just ask why people are saying to have only essential money in the bank? Is it because if something happens we would have trouble accessing it as they would just not allow it....or worse that we would lose it altogether.....and that the 85K safety thing is a lie.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

CC, I think it's a combination of things... the govt might say you're covered up to £x amount - but they can bring in emergency measures at any time and change that, and once the bank is closed then it's too late to start yelling that the govt lied to you. Or they can decide to pay you in "bonds" or certificates or something useless.
Or as in Cyprus, a one day bank holiday can be extended and by the time they open again a new tax has been born that lifts a slice off the top of your money.
And remember Northern Rock - long queues of frantic people worried sick.
To me, that isn't worth the risk at all, although I have no money at all and my savings at best only reach a few hundred ££s lol
