Just curious.
Do you have any religious, moral, or ethical taboos?
If so, would you be willing to forego them in a SHTF/EOTWAWKI situation?
For example, would you eat forbidden foods, if it was all that was available?
Likewise, if your beliefs (religious, moral or ethical) require you to carry out an act, or acts, of observance, or abstain from certain activities, either always, or at certain times of the day/week/month/year, would you be willing to ignore those requirements, in the aforementioned SHTF/EOTWAWKI situation?0 -

You are in the right area Craig.
I was thinking on the lines of vegetarians/vegans eating meat, people who are anti-blood sports trapping animals/fishing, Muslims and Jews eating non-halal/kosher foods, people of whatever faith skipping prayers and fasts, working on the Sabbath, etc.
That sort of thing.0 -
I am totally against blood sports buts if it came to my son surviving I think I would bare handed kill anything without any remorse to feed him. also I would like to try and keep the Sabbath as special well as special as could be possible maybe mark it with short prayers.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

I think I would eat anything except, probably, insects. The reality is, when really starving, people will eat pretty much anything that comes to hand, up to and including each other. An extreme situation like that is unlikely for most of us, it will be more a war of slow attrition, expanding our horizons and economising on food expenditure gradually. This is already happening; we eat vegetarian food, things like veggie curries and Italian type food (remember that Italy is historically a poor country and classic Italian food is very much a peasant diet) more often than we eat meat now, where our parents would have sat down to meat and veg nearly every day. To be honest we would struggle to afford that with the price of meat, and we're not badly off compared to many.0

BOB - this sort of question came up at my discussion group this week, in light of the Philippines situation.
The general consensus (my view included) is that while we believe that theft is a sin, it would be a greater sin to allow harm to come to someone for the sake of not sinning in another way (sanctity of life and all that).
In other words, if I knew of a starving child and the only possible way I could help was by shop lifting a tin of something, you can bet your bottom dollar I'd take it.Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

I would aim to keep my fast days and festivals (though I suspect the latter would be very low key in a SHTF scenario).
Foods that I don't eat on ethical grounds are those involving deliberate cruelty, eg white veal and foie gras - not likely to be a major worry in the circumstances.0 -

That's a good question which I've just pondered on.
No religion (but closest beliefs are Buddhist/spiritual) so that's not a problem but I'm a veggie.
So having pondered on this a while I've decided in 'you die if you don't eat' situation I probably would eat chicken, fish etc if hubby did the killing bit.
We both agreed I'd probably starve if I had to kill an animal myself. But until one is in that situation I don't think you really know how you'd react.
I don't have a problem with meat eaters, hubby is one and I cook it, but only if it doesn't look like an animal.......no, no's are fish with a head on, whole chicken etc but can do mincemeat, chicken breast, fish fingers etc
I'm very anti blood sports but not against killing animals for food.0
