    I don't even buy presents.

putting it into perspective we are lucky as apart from our parents we don't have any other family.. ( well we do, but haven't seen them for years)

    so on the present list

is our 2 boys, mil, and my parents, for the last 2 years our parents get food hampers, well basically a bit of shopping in a nice box, which has gone down better than any other gift we have given in the past..

Our boys now that they are a lot older, will just get the normal, smellies, underwear and maybe one present each... was thinking of a watch each...

Hubby I will buy him some bits that can be used around the smallholding, might even buy him that book mentioned on here, living off the grid, as that's what he has been interested in lately..

So, could it be said that TPTB are trying to persuade us to go shopping now by playing on fears? If the weather does become foul, then they've already got our money even if we can't get out over The Festive Season. Quarter 3 will look great due to panic buying and, if the weather turns out nice, they've got that second load of spending.

that's the way I am looking at it, whether its right or wrong:D

The last time a panic buy came into play was the last time there was a so called 'threat' of strike action with the tanker drivers or something, and surprisingly it was on the last week? of one of their financial quarters.. and surprise, surprise, there was a growth in sales, a very small % but a growth, which if I remember rightly stopped us from 'officially' being in recession..

We all know that the government think they are good at manipulating figures, whether it be growth, unemployment figures etc, ;)

  • I'm not kidding CTC, I really don't.

This will be the 5th Christmas in a row, where I haven't given or received a single card or present.

    Yes, by choice.

I have very few family (and those I have, I rarely/never speak to), and the friends I have, I have asked not to do the card/present thing.

I treat it like any other day.

Mostly, I work Christmas Day, anyway.

I watched a gardening program a few years ago and it was explained that good fruiting is the result of the right kind of weather for the tree or bush at the right time which then makes the plant fruit well the following year. It made perfect sense to me.
  • Hi all
I've been keeping up with you all but haven't had a chance to post recently (not that i've got much to say thats of interest:rotfl:).
Been reading Sharon Astyk's book on preserving food, and i'm thoroughly enjoying it. I suppose a lot of the stuff is similar to bits she posted on her blog but it's been good having it all together, or maybe its the fact I've been curled up with a glass of wine and a blanket whilst reading that has made it better:D.

It's freezing outside today and feels like snow isnt far away.
Pulled up the old bits and bobs of rhubarb today and gave the area a mulch (just like monty told me to on Friday's gardeners world:D). Mar I can appreciate the appeal of Peter but I do have a soft spot for Monty;).
Keep your fingers crossed gals and guys as I am baking my first ever christmas/fruit cake, so hope all the blooming effort is worth it. I know realise i should have read the recipe all the way through before starting as I thought the amount of brandy was ridiculously small so addded (ahem) lots more. Then read further on and it told me to feed it after cooking with more booze oops.

Hope you are all well and staying cozy
