OH did a tour of local charity shops at weekend, we usually popin when the kids are in school so we get time to have a good root around, but DD1 said she wanted to have a look. She came back with a bagful of stuff for around £5. A sweatshirt that's like new (Justin beiber-her fav lol), some pink slip on shoes again like new (she is mad on shoes), A T-shirt with something to do with gymnastics on and more practically a thick woollen scarf and hat. OH got an enormous thick gold coloured candle that has never been lit, a scarf and a toy castle (ben and holly) which littlies have been playing with all weekend lol.

DD1 seems to be hooked and says she will definitely be having another go. OH noticed quite a few kids games and jigsaws, I suppose people are clearing out before crimbo, so will be having a trawl next week when kids are back at school for bits for crimbo. Thing is with games you need to have a good look and check its all there.

Some of them have got quite pricey, they tried it on a bit near me, but soon realized they weren't selling much and brought them more in line.

The electrical and homeware one is having a laff, I can buy it for the same in Arrgoooooos.

PiC I can relate to that.

Lots of the 'chain' CS shops are getting silly. You can often get things for the same price brand new, in the Sales, especially Matalan and Primani stuff. I'm afraid I go for the sale racks in the CS:o and target the local CS shops instead, which tend to be a bit cheaper. I've completely stopped going in BHF as the prices are too high. I know they are looking to raise money for their cause but if people don't shop there then it backfires. I also think they serve another purpose which is to cater for those people who cannot afford high st prices - a sort of extra bit of charitable work if you will.
I find car boots and table top sales are better, unfortunately I don't see jumble sales around here:( used to love going to those with my gran when I was little. I used to collect Enid Blyton books and baby clothes for my dolls, lol...

I went to a Vintage Fair at the weekend and it was packed. Prices were a bit too high for me, though I did get a couple of things for xmas presents that will be appreciated. I saw an old fashioned eiderdown quilt for £65:eek:, but then saw another at a table top sale the nest day for £2!!! I got the £2 one;) I also got some nice curtains for £2.50.

Ordered some logs today, they're bloomin' expensive! I have got a yard full of scrap wood too that needs sawing and chopping, so can supplement the logs and I've found a cheap supply for next year (he's stopped cutting at the mo but will be back on it in the Spring).

Had the parents visit for the past few days as it was my birthday, so been a bit spoiled, They took me out for a lovely meal and bought me an apple tree for my lottie as a pressie:D Dear dad has also decorated my living room for me, bless him:)

The problem is unlike a toilet overflow the water drips slowly through the condensate pipe and its the slow drips that freeze over each other till they block the pipe.

TBH only way to solve it is to have the pipe run internally say into the sink waste pipe or insulate . I have seen sites saying a bigger bore of pipe, above the basic recommended width can help.
I confess, I'm really confused by the pipe thing. I've tried to follow, I've cut and pasted it all into a document, but .... what pipe are we talking about, is it one that comes out from the back of the boiler? I don't have a pipe there, the boiler's on an external wall, and there's a hole in the wall that the steam comes out from. Is that a pipe for some people, if there's difficulty with the location of the boiler???

Sorry to sound so ignorant ...

JayneC mentioned vintage fairs - I love going to them and browsing, but only buy a very few things, and I make sure I haggle a bit too.

But some of the starting prices are so high, it's often too high to haggle down to what I want to pay.

But it is fun to see many objects that I remember from my childhood, and I like the concept of things being re-used and re-loved.

Karmacat, ours too is on an outside wall; it has a short pipe that steam comes out of, with a cage over it. But it also has a small plastic pipe that joins onto the sink plumbing - it's next to the sink, and floor-mounted, as it's a biggie - under the draining board, and that's what drains the condensate liquid away. I believe in some cases it can go outside into a drain; they just took the easiest route for ours.

ETA: keeping quiet on the Vintage Fair front - that's what I do! But I have a "speciality" and try to keep my prices reasonable & affordable - at the end of the day, I want to sell things, not take them home again!

Isn't the water still tepid, when it emerges from the boiler?

I found it was the steam that condensed and dripped from the top pipe (exhaust?) causing a long icicle to hang from it and the drips also fell on the condenser pipe which then froze because the temps were so low outside, about -15. I stood for over an hour with a hairdryer to thaw the condenser pipe then applied two tea towels and a plastic bag to the pipe to stop it happening again. It was finally removed this summer but will get a foam cover this year.

All this talk about pipe insulation has reminded me about the draught excluder I made a year ago: two pieces of tubular foam insulation the width of the door placed one each side of it joined to each other under the door with duct tape, also the width of the door. The duct tape goes top and bottom so the sticky sides are covered. It's a home-made version of this http://www.pipelagging.com/door-draught-proofing-strips-exluders

I've left it in place all year and it works a treat. We have flagstone floors so it slides easily. Not sure how it would work on carpet. If anyone has spare pipe lagging left over from dealing with pipes, this might be a good use for it.
