Me too WCS. :) sometimes I have to work at it though, to blot things out.

Me too, it's why I have spells here and then disappear for a while - otherwise I spend too much time on the internet, rather than living my life. A lot of stuff i'd rather not know by and large
  • If you know what's going on in the world with a bit of luck you'll know when to duck!!! and you'll also, know when not to!!!

So relevant to what has been discussed here this morning with my sister. She's telling me of the stress involved in hiring removal firms to move all their 'stuff', has spent a furth £180 on stuff with me there this morning 'to make her new house homely' but is telling me she's desperately worried about heating the place, paying more council tax and already her husband an her are arguing about their finances. I kept right lipped and just thought 'I'd have invested that £180 in wood for the wood burner you are about to get and left all that glass, fabric, pot and floral gubbings in the shop'.

In contrast DH and I face a move 6 hour drive away, are moving out 5th Nov, sleeping in MIL caravan (although actually living in MiLs house ;) ), still don't know where we will be living at the end of next month (sorting next week) will fit all our things in one van load, renting a tiny place within our means and the big one... Not at all argumentative and see every challenge as just another step towards a simple, active and harmonious life.

I've faced digs today about 'being homeless' or 'you can't get excited because nothing will actually be yours'. Bricks and mortor, belongings, striving for new of everything didn't used to bring me happiness but being a realist and appreciating the comfort I do have bringa me a great deal in my life. All I strive for is contentment. I feel for her, I honestly do. It's took today for me to see that I'm a very lucky person and truly hold my head up high to her digs.

    Well said...
  • Mrs L as I get older i'm less interested in what is happening in the rest of the world and more concerned with the personal security of my family. My children keep me up to date with world issues in general and through my work I'm kept up to date with national issues. At home I like to surround myself with peace. I live pretty much the same way we did on the croft, barring the milking, its a pace of life which suits me.

  • I like a nice peaceful life too WCS but I like to know what's going on that might disturb that peace. I like to keep a finger on the pulse of the world so to speak just so we're not caught unawares by anything that we could realistically do something about, however, I do realise that some happenings are too big for individual preps and too fast to be able to duck in time, I guess we all cope in our own individual ways eh? I go by the motto "you can't do everything but you can do something".

I got the flu jab a couple of weeks ago, have an AF order on the way and just got an eye test and new glasses.

DH has found the solar lights and we are trying them out and I am experimenting with new recipes. I still need to buy more potatoes in a sack and milk to freeze in case of bad weather and am trying to get things online with free postage as much as I can.

Need to order more prescriptions for next week for us to give us some wriggle room if weather is bad.

Have you ever read Mary Croft's book, GQ?

    http://thecrowhouse.com/Documents/mary-book.pdf

What you said above reminded me of what Mary mentioned on page 52 regarding even people who think they own their houses outright:

"You own no property; slaves can’t own property. Read the Deed to the property that you think is yours. You are listed as a Tenant."

Very interesting. Only half way through though.
