Far too big these days for my liking but I can't get out and about so much. In fact am classed as obese . The weight does not help the old Arthur-itis at all.
I need to get as much prepared as poss before winter sets in in case we get snow/ice and am unable to get out for a few days. Although I live quite close to town/shops my balance is poor and am terrified of falling. Once that's done I can begin to take a more serious look at long term prepping. I'm in the process of clearing out a lot of rubbish in order to have more room for stores.
Can anyone give me more info - or direct me to more - about Bug Out Bag please?
This might help:

Mrs LW,
I seem to recall my Nan saying the old style method involved the word NO and a slap!
Do condoms keep or are they likely to perish?
I don't even know why I'm asking... I'm so over the hill it's dark here! There was a joke doing the rounds in my parents' young day about how a girl should always have an asprin in her purse on a date.
Because you could use it to poke thru your stocking if the button had come off the suspender, because you could clamp it between your knees to use as a contraceptive and, if all else failed, you could cure your "headache" with it.:rotfl:
I've been to a bootfair (two in two days, must be a bank holiday) and had a most preptastic shopping experience.
I've bought one of those very strong welded tubular steel trollies that they take the newspapers around the street on. I'e wanted something like a sack-barrow for the longest time but they don't turn up second hand and are pretty pricey for a decent one. So this is my sack-barrow substitiute. I have made a cardboard template for it to have a plywood footplate cut when Mum next has the sawbench out, which will have holes predrilled and will be held on to the base with wire.
At the moment it still has it's pvc vinyl newspaper bad on it but that's not particularly strong and won't last forever. I'm thinking heavy haulage, possibly water carriers in a standpipe type situation.
And I got some more candles, two water carriers (diff sizes) and a set of pushbike panniers which are totally unused. Am grinning from ear to ear. I also got what is either a Maglite or a deadringer and some paper plates still sealed in their packaging.
Going to clean the outside of the water containers now and then sterilise the inside of them with Miltons Fluid as per the instructions on their website.
Have stashed the 10 large pillar candles bought yesterday in a wine bottle box (6 vertically and 4 horizontally) at the folks'. Getting my leg pulled gently as they think there won't be powercuts but if there are, they're sorted for candles for quite some time. Was that not a most preptastic set of bargains? I also bought a courgette which was getting dangerously-close to marrow territory.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Thanks for the link BBB. Arthur is better today than for several days so getting on with things while I can.
I never seem to be able to get to Boot Fairs as round here they are always on Sundays and I have other commitments. I do love charity shops though.:rotfl:Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Today I bought a camera online as my old one is bust. I'm not sure if my dog will last the winter - with her lung condition - and want to take lots of pics of her while she is around
The keeping up with the Jones neighbour has just invested in a 'moon gazing hare'. It's a horrible concrete poured into a mold (mould?) creation but she genuinely likes it. Apparently it's a fertility symbol. But she's approaching 60! Meanwhile while out on the raz, I've heard her telling several complete porkies to others. Not sure whether it is deliberate or whether she lives in a Walter Mitty fantasy land.
Anyways - bread is proving in the sunand I'm having a refreshing midday whisky & coke
Have a list of things to get tomorrow. I actually ran out of olive oil - what a prepping failure!.

hi all, great reading the past few pages ! I too fall into the obese section lol size 22 ontop due to massive hooters and a 20 on the bottoms I don't care being larger as I have this month seen a friend of mine fall into ill health rapidly and her size 10 frame going into meltdown and everything deteriorating so quickly. luckily a strong course of cortison and shes back up there again, but I was so surprised at how not eating for a few days the way her health went downhill so quicly. I know lack of food obviously will make you worse but the sped she literally got knocked off her feet was very disturbing to me . I didn't realise she was so frail and petite until I helped her get changed 1 day and she was painfully thin, so I not worrying about my weight as I have conquered smoking this year and the difference I have noticed in 7 months is like a new body being given to me ! I am able to run up the stairs no probs and walking effortlessly now so much so that I am actually walking everywhere and in return my body is toning up tighter naturally. granted I do need to lose about 4 stone but I will do it slowly I not rushing hopefully by next summer I shall have succeeded...........she mumbles to herself! anyway on a better subject after the marathon of 2 weeks of jam making from my garden I can honestly say I am sick looking at jam jars on last count its 9 blackcurrant, 12 raspberry, 5 strawberry, and 3 blackberry. so today I am in possession of 22 sweetheart cabbages which oh haskindly machetied out of the ground for me. its his day of and the poor man hasn't stopped gardening.so I am going to blanche/ freeze them. also pulled up loads of small onions so am going to pickle them I fancy doing some in a sweet picklie for a change. also have finally worked myself up to do a load of ebay stuff got 4 binbags and 3 boxes to get rid of(anyone got boys aged 8 lol) loads of clothes . great hearing how you all store your goods I try and stack mine under stairs in those plastic tubs with lids on, the massive size ones stack really well. tins are just like a brick wall in various nooks and crannies and have found those f/b pies stack well too.well off now as can smell the cabbage have a good day all and its nice to be back , and helllloooo all new people your in a great place here xxxC.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Hi AOT I'm not good on Bug Out Bags but might I suggest you look for a pair of Yaktrax for when it's icy - like these:

Sorry - I meant to put in the link for medium size, which are also reduced in price!
I was incredibly lucky this week and found an unused pair in my size for £1 at a car boot - happy days!
Best wishes, the cake0 -
It's bloomin hot down here this afternoon, and I'm in the unaccustomed position of having finished all my chores for the day so we're having a cuppa but I'm feeling guilty for having nothing to do, aren't we odd? We've processed and pressed three more bags of apples today and there seem to be an awful lot of wasps around this year, we're having to keep the lurcher inside as he snaps at them and He Who Knows has to be jolly careful because he's covered in apple goo and juice from the pulp, oh well if we want the cider, we have to do the work, yes? I used todays picking of blackberries to make us a crumble and we had sweetcorn from the allottment for lunch with an almost wholly home grown salad, yum! We've finally taken the first lot of beans out of the polytunnel as they'd finished and the outside runners have flowers on but no beans, a relief if I'm honest but oh the courgettes, oh the courgettes, oh the bloomin courgettes!!!!! I'm hoping we'll pop to the pub this evening after supper as we haven't been out for ages and it would be nice to be somewhere other than the house for a couple of hours, busy, busy, busy!!! Hope you've all had a nice bank holiday, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

I'm feeling quite pleased with myself as when I did my monthly food order (tins etc) I added extra tins of things I use that will go into storage. Such as beans, tomatoes and fruit. So feel I've started on my preps - if only a little bit.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0

Thanks PP. That's what I needed to know. I'm very new at this. My mobility is very poor at times so would not be able to go anywhere if I had anywhere to go. Will just concentrate on prepping to stay where I am.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0
