Some people favour paraffin lanterns but considering the tinyness of my home, I consider the fumes not viable.

I don't find the fumes very noticeable.

I'd recommend the Cold Blast type, over either the Dead Flame or Hot Blast types.

The Cold Blast type has the best combustion, which results in a brighter flame and less fumes.

Thanks GQ. That has given me pause for thought. Although I hide everything else, I have two earthenwear pots with small conifers in outside the front door.

These used to be in plastic pots, but they kept blowing over. How could I secure them in place (short of screwing them to the ground)?

Also, it just occurred to me, even my brick pavers could be missiles if someone managed to get one loose. OMG!

Okay, well I think I found a solution to the pots problem. I just ordered two of these planters:

In a very strange coincidence last night, (must be memory working forwards again) the back of my house was attacked by missile throwers at 11.30 last night.

I have just looked outside, and find the missiles seem to be part baked bread rolls. Thank God it wasn't anything heavier.

LOL. I thought it was an intimate, ahem, 'massager', but it turns out to also be a small stove:

:)My flat is very small, only 24m sq so that anything you do which impacts on the air quality (such as have the gas stove on) is immediately noticable.

Hence my call about paraffin lamps in my particular set of circumstances.

  • Just popping over to say I'm still around, still reading from the beginning (its taking ages lol). Hoping to start on my mini stock piling and I've bought my BOB which I technically carry with me everywhere as its very easy to walk anywhere on the Island. Just need to figure out what to keep in it, first things first will be a wind up torch :)

  • Hi all
Been reading regularly but not been posting as my DS keeps pinching my laptop and I find it a bit of a palava to use the tablet.
Got veg in the dehydrator which has given me a warm fuzzy prepping feeling:D.
Day off today so will check supplies and popout if need be.
DH and I escaped for a couple of nights camping in Glencoe last weekend which was very lovely, and we had lots of fun checking the camping and cooking gear out (big kids:rotfl:).
    Hugs to all x
