    Hi Kezlou,

good luck with the tax form tomorrow - I find better just to do these things asap as they're invariably not so bad once you get going.

I've decided to give myself a break and close my etsy store. I'm going to focus on making the most of our household income and try and save a little also over the coming months to build up my stores again. Apologies for being so whiney yesterday - it isn't like me.

Hope everyone has a safe and productive week,

    WCS

On the subject of batteries, I find AA & particularly AAA very poor value.

I have a wireless outdoor temperature sensor, and also an electricity monitor, which in total require ten AAA cells which last around 3 months. Even at 50p each that's £20 a year.

I have cut this cost drastically by buying D cell holders from Maplin, and soldering the wires onto the AAA battery contacts. The D cells are about £1 each but last 16 times as long as the AAA's.

I forgot to mention, for anyone who is thinking of doing the same:

You need to have a look in the battery case of your appliance, to work out where the + & - of the whole battery of cells is, and connect the wires from your D cell holder there. (There are likely to be several terminals apart from these that are just linking the small cells together.)
  • WCS if you can't say it to us, then who? We all understand about stressful times and down days and anyway you weren't whiney, just a bit worried and sad, so have a hug anyway!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.
  • jk0, an alternative to wielding a soldering iron (a skill not everyone has), is to cut a couple of lengths of wooden dowel (of the same diameter as a AAA battery), to the same length as a AAA battery, drive a drawing pin into one end of each piece, with the wire trapped underneath the drawing pin.

Then, insert the dowels in place of the batteries, ensuring the drawing pins are connected to the correct terminals.

Thanks Mrs L, I knew you would all understand. I work with people who are often at their wits end, and I've seen time and time again how quickly things can go dreadfully wrong - I feel more secure when I'm better prepped.
    Onwards and upwards!!!:)

  • I just had to post! I'm kind of a newbie been around years usually just lurk and get tips... But... I have realized whilst reading your thread that I too am a prepper of sorts not quite on the level with most (99%) of yous but was at least a stockpiler. I just had to say you have all helped me realize that part of my current problem is I am unable to build my stores, I feel lost without them and you have help me identify I'm not a human hamster lol. As soon as I have my personal issues sorted I will once again be stashing tins, herbs and pulses throughout a house. I thought you would all appreciate a little gratitude from one of the many lurkers that use your ideas but don't always say thanks due to shyness or loosing their log in details hmmmm lol
Hats of to the prepared ones @-}--

    Aww, thanks, Looopylou.

It's good to get input from someone who doesn't usually post and to know that reading along is of value to you, and hopefully to others as well. It'd be great if you chose to share what you're doing to prep, and any triumphs and pitfalls which we could all learn from.

As to being ultra-prepared, well, we're all somewhere on a continuum according to our individual temperaments, resources and (lol) degrees of tin-hattedness.

WCS, you weren't being whiney. You were venting, and if you can't vent with us, a bunch of friendly strangers, where can you vent? Sometimes we don't always want to show this side to our nearest and dearest.

Today, I have spent a few mins before coming online drinking tea and chiseling some donated-to-me partially melted candles which I got yestereve from a pal. They're going into the next melt project to be reborn as Pr*ngle tube candles and added to the supplies.

After work, I shall extract some cash from the bank and buy a few more groceries in tins for the stockpile, and perhaps go up to the lottie after tea to work on the gardening. All of those can loosely be classified as "prepping" but that's just how I live my life, not something bolted on top of A.N. Other life.

Righty, think the porridge might just be cool enough to eat now.

Have a good day, everyone. GQ xx

Pineapple applied some Betadine solution (10% povidone iodine) to an infected cut (she had got a bit of tree stuck in her hand) and all is well now 'touch wood'. Actually when she got the iodine, she had in mind a nuclear emergency, as some sources say it may be helpful to dab on some iodine.

On the bottle it say 'For professional and hospital use only - not for retail sale'. I'm wondering what this says about the source!

PS there seem to be some site posting probs at the mo - it won't post if I include a smiley. It seems that others having this problem too. Cue smiley frown....
