  • I think we must be the exception to the rule this year, we put in three rows of 'Accent' which are described as earlies and have just harvested two sacks full of good keepers of a good size and another sack of smaller potatoes to use up first. They are all in beautiful condition and with no damage from insects either and we are known to have eelworm on the allotments but this variety is resistant. We've grown them before and I know they keep very well as a store potato, Cheers Lyn xxx.

There seem to be as many ways of making porridge as there are porridge makers, but this is the one I use. HTH.
These days I prefer using oatmeal - it can take a little longer but I like the texture.

By "It" I'm referring to the button battery radio I've been searching for, for months.

    9uvthc.jpg

It was in my local 99p shop, of all places.

Uses 1x CR2016 battery (24p each at Amazon).
    cr2016-82-p.jpg
Weighs 24g, including battery and earphones.

They are also selling 425g cans of sardines (bought one for buggalugs) and mackerel.

BTW. I think the profanity filter is set way too sensitive.

    It censored Bugg*rlugs.

ETA: This profanity filter is weird.

It censors !!!!!!lugs, yet allows knackers

  • Yes, buggalugs is a cat.

Not sure if she'd appreciate being referred to as a "pet".

Its just registered 90 degree's here in Manchester, thank goodness I am organised and only had to nip on the market for a cooked leg of lamb and some grapes for OH. This prepping malarky is really worth it isnt it? The thought of the bad old days, trailing round shops ...oh wait ..no I never really did that :D Made a couple of ginger cakes with my delivery from AF - WOW, they are Morrisons and I got 2 x1lb cakes and I think they were 50p.

I must have a look for powdered egg for my pantry now, for baking and pancakes etc. Sorted the pantry yesterday and its much more organised now. Think Im still short on tinned meat though so will have to do that as I go along.

OOh Elaine what a fabulous harvest. I only have one blackcurrant bush and it was new this year but still got a few off it. The elderberries look good this year here so am going to keep an eye on them. Mr A seems to have the cheapest sugar locally so need to start buying that in. We dont really use much normally but with blackberry season fast approaching I dont want to get caught out.

Ooh just ordered some of those "deidentified" ginger cake mixes from AP today, there seemed to be a few mixes for cakes/dumplings etc that are morrisons-the kids love the herby dumplings and although I can and do make all the same things from scratch, sometimes its nice just to be able to open a packet and do a quick mix lol. Plus the prices are so cheap. Looking forward to the chocolate brownie mix will be easy for the kids to knock some up themselves.

Been enjoying the Lidl weekend offers recently, stocked up on various types of chocolate for baking (or pinching by the kids-we have a running battle where I move the hiding places around lol), and my fav "sonday" biscuits which are just the same as those choco liebnitz but only 70p, and this last weekend just 35p yay!
Don't you love seeing the boxes/tins/packets piled up.

The offer this weekend includes 24 packs of pepsi cans for £5.88 so will be getting some of those as we love a cold can this time of year-we don't drink so these are a treat for us.
Though with an AP order also in the works not sure where I will fit everything in.

Off to find some threads for using up a corgette mountain from the garden, broad beans almost finished, but now the runners are starting to pump out and my French beans (dwarf and climbing) are starting to flower, but at least they can be frozen.

:D Heh! One of those cats, then. :rotfl:

The parents units have two rescue cats, sisters, had them years now. Their response to the heatwave? They haven't been indoors for over a month and want to be fed on the doorstep.

Cheeky monsters. We shall remember this when winter comes and they turn into lapseeking missiles and want to get under the bedcovers with their servants, yes we will.

I was contemplating visiting the chippy for a fish supper (£5) but decided that I could and should do better than that. Went instead to the supermarche and got 2 large battered frozen cod reduced to £1.50, one in the oven one in the freezer as we speak, plus a half-price Indian ready meal, in date til next Friday, and 5 cans of peas in date til 2017 for the storecupboard. Altogether = £4.25.

Am cooking HG potatoes to have with my fish and some baked beans, so all is well at the homestead. I sacrificed a bit of convenience in terms of having to wait for it to cook and washing up afterwards to save some spondulicks.

Tomorrow's plan of action will be a bit of gardening, a bit of food shopping and some charity shop trawling. One donation bag out and maybe something in, if the price is right and the want is there.

Sweltering here today, with on/off thundery showers. Phew!

  • On the subject of chippies, have you noticed how hard it is nowadays, to find decent chippy chips?

I prefer my own, home made (and hence also cheaper) ones.
