:o Ooops. My bad, sorry; brain not functioning properly above 20 celcius.

    Many thanks to BBB, then!

Bees have been a mixture of both. Also one wasp today.
We managed to rescue one Bumble yesterday, lifted it up out of harms way on to a tree, but it is beginning to worry me. I think I've seen less than half a dozen live ones so far this year.
Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

Just done my grumpy old woman routine and had a word with a neighbour who has had a garden bonfire going all day. My house smells all stinky and I have to take particular care with the bronchial dog. Anyhow he tried to give me a bottle of wine as a peace offering so now I feel like Mrs Nasty! :D
Been lax about getting the drainage problems sorted so now making preps for the forecasted deluge. Got some sand and grit bags to divert water from the back patio doors. We hope!
Plus going to prop up a brolly to protect some plants :D and will cover others with plastic bags and bring a couple of pots indoors before bed tonight.
Have charged up the radio in case the leccy goes off, mowed the grass, done the laundry.... Bring it on ;)

    :( That's grim.

I feel that there are fewer bees about than last year, although things have picked up recently at the lottie; the right flowers seem to bring them out. They particularly like what botanists would call native wildflowers and gardeners call weeds. I'm running a fine line in tolerating hairy bittercress on the lottie because it grows all over and the bees are mad for its white blossoms. But they I have to hit the sweet spot before those blossoms form little narrow pods which, when ripe, explode the seeds up to a meter.

One thing in this life I definately don't need is more weed seeds. But you should see the bees on the mallow, they're alive with bees of all kinds. Does your heart good to see it.

We've had several honeybee swarms in the city in June and lots of callers with masonry bees they want the council to destroy. We don't kill bees; no species, no matter where they are and what they're doing, they're sacrosanct. People reporting swarms are given the local beekeepers' association contact numbers as they'll try to capture the swarm. It's supposed to be a sight to behold, but not one I've had a chance to witness - yet.

pineapple, hope your anticipated flood doesn't come but it seems that you have done all that can be done and now it's fingers crossed. After a blazingly hot sunny day, it's gone grey and very humid so we may be in for thunder later. Won't be for a few hours I reckon as I haven't got my pressure head on yet, that special thunder headache.

And you're not a Mrs Nasty; no one should need a blasted bonfire all day, fer cryin' out loud.

  • We've just had a massive thunderstorm.

Hopefully, it'll be a bit cooler from now on.

Sorry for the hollow laugh, our thunderstorm arrived at around 2.50am - at least that's when the power went off. It lasted about 40 minutes.

An almost empty ice cream tub (straight sided) has nearly 2 inches more rainwater in it!.

Still very muggy and warm here :(

    Hi

We've got heavy showers and the occasional rumble of thunder at the moment but the nice bit is that it is cooler :) I'm hoping it will stay a bit cooler today cos I really need to do some baking today and even with all the windows open it has been like a sauna the last few days.

Hugs to those that have to go out in this :)

Hope everyone is keeping well hydrated cos it makes me feel headachy and tired when I get too thirsty.

    Have a good day everyone

W have a bees nest in our eaves. We thought they were wasps and were going to spray but have discovered they are bees so we will leave them, they don't look we'll though.

Lots of rain and thunder here (midlands) also, I quite like the odd day like this.

Well after being away for some time with personal and health problems, I am now back and need to get back in to doing things.

As its cooler today we have decided after lunch thats the OH and myself, we will go through all the food cupboards and take stock of what we have and what we need.

I would like to start next week and get extra food put by for winter, like tea, oats, sugar, milk, pasta and tinned meat. So I though I could buy three to four items a week it would be a start.

Once we have sorted that out will will look at what we need if we have no power for cooking. We do a two ring gas stove with 24 cannisters of gas, and I am saving for a kelly kettle which I should beable to purchase with in the month.
