Tinfoil is the look for 2013 and beyond. I shall be accessorising mine with my multipocket weskit and swiss army knife. Camo optional.
Jesting aside (but never too far aside, we are the batties after all) I think listening to the meeja and asking ourselves Why am I being told this? Why now? Why at all?
Mainstream media is in the hands of a very few global conglomerates. Why do really wealthy and powerful people want to own newspapers and broadcast news organisations? Whisper it who dares, but could it possibly be that it makes them even wealthier and more powerful than they are now, to have control over what we know and when we know it?
Soooo, we of the tinfoily sistren and brethren need to have our thinking caps alongside our tinfoil hats and try to look for the levers and make efforts to figure out what the heck is going on out there- as it says in my sig line, just because you don't pay attention to politics, doesn't mean politics won't pay attention to you.
Righty, time to have away to the library and return some sedicious literature and hopefully obtain some more. I have gardened and I even *ssshhhh* saw a bit of pink on some strawbs which are hidden in deep cover in a grasspatch. Get me, I even have secret ops fruiting plants.........:rotfl:
Be good. Be careful. Be prepared and tinned and be-blanketed. If you're cold and hungry, you'll soon realise what's important in this world and what's not.

GQ I always read the little 1" items in the side colums of the newspapers, that is where the real news is, hidden in 100 words or less and completely overshadowed by whatever is splashed across the headlines and usually the first half of the newspaper as well!!! Howsomever there are usually some things worth taking note of, no matter how insignificant they seem compared to the WOW!! of the big news articles.
I only buy in things as part of the whole prepping scene that I know I'll use up in everyday life, if I need Corned Beef, I don't have to go out for it as it's already here same with candles, loo rolls, dried milk, baked beans, tinned tomatoes, over the counter medication, shampoo, flour, really all the mundane items of everyday living. That way I don't waste either my time, my money or my stores. I've invested in some useful items that I may never need like the foil blankets and emergency shelters but they were only £1 each and if we DO ever need them in anger, well we've got them here in a 'situation'. I think in prepping as in all things you can be drived by anxiety to invest in all manner of useful sounding things, but as in all things it's only useful IF you are ever going to use it!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
Let's not forget treats in all this prepping stuff. Yesterday cheered by the renewal of a prescription which keeps me from turning into a frog anytime soon, I ventured into the village store to acquire celebratory booze and chocolate.
'Bombay Sapphire' says I to the confuddled looking chap being the till. 'The blue bottle' I hissed when he looked confused. 'Gin!' I shouts at his continued bewilderment. At which the whole store turned and stared at the middle aged alcoholic in their midst.
Cheers! :beer:0 -
Aaahhhh! A lady of refined taste my S in L would say, that's her tiple of choice and an easy birthday/xmas pressie for me to get.
And my treat's, been to L*dl and got the 17p chocolate and the fake pimms with 44% extra for free:beer:£71.93/ £180.000 -
Best laid plans an' all that..
Good afternoon all
Off to the Brompton on Wednesday so trying to get everything sorted before I go and now the garden has chosen to literally explode into life on me!
Even our autumn raspberries are starting to crop (allgold),although the loganberries are still just getting started as are the strawberries and summer raspberries.
Soo bottling, jamming, and dehydrating like a loony here whilst trying to finish off the house and pack for hospital :rotfl:
Nothing changes eh?
I'm taking the laptop with me so I can stay sane so may be able to catch up with the news while away..more chance of that than when I'm at home atm!!
Sorry if I've missed any important news
VJ's mum hope you are having a fab time!!

D&DD glad you will be able to log in for moral support.
A dear friend of mine reckons if you put sultana's in Bombay blue stuff and leave them a few days it helps with gout and athritis - maybe you would just be too tiddly to feel the pain:rotfl: I found kelp tablets in my local chemist so will be getting some on Monday - look out a new ginny will be around in about 3 weeks like a budgie on trill (do you remember that one?)
I actually have a tin hat upstairs, I could put a layer of tinfoil on it and look rather dashing me thinks???Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

I think the recent scare stories about power cuts are a tad too coincidental coming at the same time as a push for fracking. But hey what use is a tin foil hat if you can't take it out and give it a polish now and then ....:rotfl:
Please, Please, Please, Everyone if you know little of fracking and it's effects environmentally look it up. I really don't believe it's the answer to our fuel problems. The only ones to benefit will be corporations. It's truly scarey stuff and could contaminate our water and farming. There are also some in the guberment who stand to gain as well. Look behind company and individual names and it's a dark world and future. This is just one of the reasons to consider a water filter as well as a means of purifying.Tinfoil is the look for 2013 and beyond. So so true, many just accept what they are told. I've always had a questioning mind and since a particular event some 12 yrs ago more so. I read between the lines as I've always done and ask what are we being distracted from ? What are we being conditioned to accept ? etc. I'm told by some that I spend too much time worrying, researching and looking into things, that I'm wasting my time instead of doing this or that. Being awake to very real possibilities and being prepared even if I have little control is time well spent to me and many on here, but my knowledge of world and current events and subjects is not welcomed by most and I can't share my thoughts or opinions with friends and family in RL.
Thank goodness my oh is on the same wave length and you guys here too.i think the outages would only be for a few hours at a time... we are the 5th largest economy in the world ... so barring natural disasters we should have contingency plans ... but as always you never know... take care ya all
I shan't be holding my breath for their contingency plans. Them at the top have made it quite clear that they are totally out of touch with the struggles of the ordinary person. They will be ok but I'm not sure the rest of us will be.
Their priorities seem geared to control rather than aid. The latest spending review proved this with so much more being spent on intelligence whilst cuts else where make life even more difficult
Anyway before I get too carried away best go put the kettle on whilst I still can and have a cuppa whilst I can still afford tea.0 -
So agree with what's been said in the thread. I've been winter-prepping especially the past two years; our very rural house is absolutely heavenly in the summer (space, birdsong, veg. growing etc) but can be hellish in the depths of winter (isolation, mud, no heating apart from a woodburner in the sitting room), so I concentrate on mitigating the cold and damp. GQ, I too think highly of cellular blankets and found a brand new double cream real wool one in a c.s. last winter - woohoo! I've also bought a big blanket box to store rugs and stuff in through the summer, moth proof, and with the addition of lavender bags it makes me come over all perfect-housewifey (a rare occurrence, I may say). Also bought a dehumidifier for the unheated rooms, which is wonderful, as dry air feels much warmer. I love hot water bottles, and snuggly bedsocks. I bought a beautiful copper kettle which goes on our gas hob, so we can always have tea, whatever SHTF. I buy wellies if I see them in a c.s. too, as we get through at least a pair each, every winter. (Sweet, the autocorrect wanted to change that to "I buy willies" !!!!) I make fruit flavoured gin or vodka when I can afford it, to keep the spirits up ... the damson trees are looking very promising this year, as is the blackcurrant bush, for which I have had to make little twig 'crutches' to hold its laden branches off the ground. I try and add a bit to the larder every week, whatever is on offer. I love this thread, it really gets the little grey cells going .....0
