GRANDMA - I dont know what it is with Runner beans they're like No.29 Busses, none for ages and then three bagfuls come all at the same time don't they? We've also got a triffid in the polytunnel, but ours is a courgette intent on taking over the world. I don't worry so much about the Zombies, it's the courgettes I'm scared of!!!!! Cheers Lyn x.
:rotfl:
that gave me a good giggle
my triffid is my basil plant i rescued from lidl, omg the thing really is trying to escape i swear it! i bought a window box with a tray and have it in that in some decent compost with some mint, thyme, and rosemary for whom compost is too good for it, it's not doing well i think it prefers carp soil, every other rosemary plant i've ever had has done well!
also have chives and another mint pot in seperate pots. i've been giving all of them but the rosemary regular 'hair cuts' but the basil, which is of course my least favouritehas just gone like mad. no worries been drying it along with the others just so i can still see out my window and all, i'll have plenty to pass on to friends who will think i'm a gardening pro pffftt
shame grass is so unpalatable and not worth much nutritionally speaking, i seem to be growing a jungle of that this year too :rotfl:0 -
Oh heck CONFUZZLED - Basil is the other thing going crazy in the polytunnel - Do you think it's a conspiracy? - Be very careful near the window box on nights with a full moon........................ On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've got a recipe for courgettes with basil somewhere!!!!!!! Cheers Lyn x.0

A lot of mediterranean plants prefer poor well drained soil because that is where they grow in the wild.
Lyn:rotfl::rotfl: Worrying when you get near them isn't it?
Slices of courgette dipped in a curry batter and fried is delicious0 -
The intrepid gardener - that's me!!!!! GRANDMA - We'll have to wear full protective gear to go in soon won't we? - I'll be the one using the dustbin lid as a shield, and wearing the colander on me head!!!!! Cheers Lyn x.0

Thanks DD&D. I might just see it at the movies. I'm not a great one for DVDs. Think I've got about 10 in total lol.
I wish I had a glut of courgettes. Didnt even get one this year! Peas and broad beans grew really well, but nothing from my runner beans. I dont think I could ever grow basil without the aid of a greenhouse. Even my mint hasnt been that great. And bizarrely, no lettuce grew either. I guess the seeds were just too old.0 -

And as my mum used to say, meat was meat, you ate it even though you weren't actually sure what animal it had come from. QUOTE]
The worse thing I can remember eating as a little girl in the 1940s was Snoek from a tin, ( I think it was some sort of fish,) it was disgusting, also tripe which smelt as revolting when cooking as it did on the plate, it looked and tasted like a cooked floor cloth:eek: but ate it we did, as my old Mum would hover over her brood and say
" Good men died so you could eat what's on your plate so eat it you will"and my two brothers and I did as she said and ate it even though it was horrible. I think I would rather go hungry now than eat either of them again0 -

I've eaten Snoek, yukky...it's a member of the mackerel family, but they must do something wierd to it when they can it.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z # 40 spanner supervisor. No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thought.Only after the last tree has been cut down.
