  • And just think how fit those lads would get walking the canal boats through the tunnels....

I've always liked canals - ever since I fell into the Forth & Clyde Canal when I was visiting my Glasgow granny :D They just seem so sensible an idea. I'm sure they will come back some day.

:p Fit lads, now there's a thought! Get thee to the norty step. :p

I was in a cheapy store this aft, one of the many chains prefixed by Pound...... and they had John West corned beef down to £1.59 a can and long-dated to 2017. Although, in reality, they'd last long past that date. I bought 10 because I could afford to and you can barely find the stuff under £2 a can anywhere.

I have a feeling in me watter, a sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop, calm before the storm, and all the other mettafurs, as Nanny Ogg might deem it. If feeling stressed I buy tinned foods. There are worse coping mechanisms, I s'pose.;)

westcoastscot, lovely to "see" you back posting and here's hoping for a productive growing season.

I was going to the lottie this evening until a late aft phonecall advised me parentals are incoming with my new secondhand bike, so I guess the put-the-Pashley-in-the-saloon-car experiment was a triumph. Getting it out should be a whole ball of wax, too, with Dad wincing at the potential threat to the headlining.

This will be the third bike of my adult life, so I'm pretty chuffed, it's nearly 10 years younger than the existing one, which never was right after it got potholed.

:D It's a real sit-up-and-beg thing. I feel like something out of a period drama when I ride it. Wanting to get some panniers, the well-made ones which are squarish. Has anyone got any experience/ recommendations, please?

Right, better tidy up, Muvva's coming........... where on earth did I leave that sofa....................?

GQ I had a Princess - I loved her but sold her on to a lovely family when I got my power assisted bike. I'm pretty handy with a bike, but the best thing I ever did was take it to the pro's and ask them to trim and balance it - made a huge difference to the heaviness.

    Fantastic bikes!!!!

:) Thanks for the tip, I shall store that. I have a lovely wee man who fixes my bikes, proper little father and son biz only a few streets away, been in biz nearly a centiry, passed down the generations. We talk lotties as well as bikes, no errand there is ever a swift one.

Wheee, I'm knackered. We had the Princess indoors and it filled my little sitting room. Got the new light brackets on, had a cuppa, put the Princess in the bike shed and took the old Raliegh to the car. As the three of us were lifting it inside, the left brake lever caught on summat and sheared off!

:o A few seconds after I rejected it, it was injured. D'you think it was upset at the ending of a 20-year relationship? Parentals say don't worry, they'll sort it at their end, it's being kept as a spare. Well, it's got good tyres and tubes and I sent the old lights with it. I come from hoarders, a bike less than a half-century is a good bike.

Heck, Dad still has the bike he bought in his late teens. It's a bit Trigger's Broom, IYKWIM, but still works.

Tired little bunny now. Will have a bit more interweb then curl up with a good book before bedtime. Have a good evening, folks.

a large empty water bottle - they'll have potable water stand pipes, but going back and fore can be a pain, so get one that's big.

You will need to be quick, as they're limited stock, but Aldi are selling a 20L folding water carrier, for £3-99.
