Yes. He has been a planning law advisor for a lot of non-standard communities/people (inc Ben Law for example). Also importer of scythes etc.
Based on his comments in Meat and elsewhere, one of the reasons he left TB was the dissonance he felt buying vast amounts of imported proteins and flavourings for the vegan members of the community (nuts, beans, seaweed, bean curds and ferments etc) when the community's grassland fed beef cattle who members of the community refused to eat or allow to be cooked in the shared kitchen. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thanks RAS, I thought the name was familiar, took Permaculture magazine for lots of years and the Tinkers Bubble Community featured fairly often. Don't subscribe any longer as it stopped being practical and became very idealistic and political a couple of years ago. Went to a super talk about woodland management by Ben Law a couple of years ago, the local big library had a programme of environmental based speakers and he was very interesting, a very nice chap too. ooer..
Brompton just rang while I was out with the dawg and DS2 has arranged his op for the 4th July *panic icon*
At least he might enjoy his summer hols for a change as he's been in stanmore nearly every summer holiday for 5 years.
Quite proud of him being all mature and sorting it out himself, they usually just say here's mum and I do it all.0 -
Awh D3 don't worry - send it all out to the Universe in a wee bundle and trust that he'll be all right xxx.
Wellll I didn't get a Jenners bag. But I got a Harvey Nicks one!!
Clootie I go up on the Borders bus, not anywhere near you.
And don't get all excited - the HN bag contained only a wee tube of MAC foundation0 -
We had a gloomy cloudy day here, but brightening up now, still wearing my big woolly cardi, but have been sitting, doing some needed sewing repairs this pm so did get chilly. Listened to some Radio 4, and the afternoon play caught my notice - about the concept of computers labelling us all in stereo-types, e.g. unemployed, pensioner, etc. Like news reports always say 'Unemployed father-of-one....' or 'Have-a-go pensioner...' Once the computer has labelled you, it is very difficult to have that box un-ticked....
GQ we planted the spuds in a big wooden tub-planter in January, so although we had a good few feet of snow I think it kept them warm rather than cold. They do look much better this morning as I gave them a good bucket full of water last night, and the water from boiling the eggs for breakfastThink we will leave them until September, get as many as possible. Hope the blight keeps away.
Pineapple I was also worried about losing OAP benefits and bus pass, but apparently only if you get in more than £50,000 a year, so wont be me!!
Bob The thought of Bugout bags just makes me panic. If SHTF we would have to stay put due to OH medical problems, as well as our ages (75 and 64). We are in a small country town, surrounded by farmland, no local industries to cause pollution we might have to avoid, on top of a hill. Not sure what emergency might make us evacuate - we know where we keep important documents, it might be a good idea for me to make a list of what to pack at a moments notice. We would be more likely to be cut off by flood or serious road problems, causing food or medicine distribution to be disrupted.

ooh Mar harvey nicks eh if I carried one of those round I'd probably be mistaken for Patsy of AbFab :rotfl:
Shropshirelass I have a list for 30 secs,5 mins and 30 mins evac plans if its any help? We're in much the same situation as we plan to bug in barring any life threatening situations but I agree it's handy to have a list at least so you know what to grab and where it is..my brain turns to mush sometimes when I'm stressed so lists are the way for me.That way, I can always delegate if I'm sat in the corner rocking :rotfl:
Example reads
30 secs evac plan
Car/house keys
Purse
cashbox(documents)
kids
animals (the dog is fine but the cats would be a problem!)
5 minutes
all above plus
BOB's
animal bobs
Master first aid kit
master food kit (plastic crate with 7 days worth of food)
animal food kit
pillows
blankets/duvets
30 mins..well lets just say half my house would be in the car lol
whoops I'm presuming OH can get his self out the door obviously...honest!! I just found a fair few preppy books for free on amazon for the kindle I searched emergency then preppers, food storage and lastly survival if you tweak the listings to go from low to high price it makes it easier toogot a nice dehydrating one as well

So you need to think bug-in seriously and bug-out if OH has to go into hospital.
Bug in
Water
Medication
Food
Cooking
Heating
Lighting
Communications (more important if someone has a health issue)
Also where are the stop-cocks and gas/electric manis switches? DO you know how to use them?
Entertainment?
Bug out in medical situation
transport/keys/fuel
meds
Clothing
Cash
Snacks
CommunicationsIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I think for most people the hardest thing is deciding if its time to go or safer to stay,I'm not sure if we have such a thing as mandatory evacuations here like they do in the states usually if the police knock and ask you to leave you just do,we're too polite to argue.
Since I've lived here we have had chemical spills, noxious fires causing us to be sealed in,a huge gas leak (evacuated to school, which is our local shelter),2 house fires near us and the riots so close we could see the flames,a flash flood, armed swat teams sealing off the estate for different murders and thats without everyday things like trees being blown over, snowed in etc..it's a wonder I'm not permanently dressed in kevlar
Funnily enough though I actually feel safe here..0 -
I have been trying to find some sense about the Eat Less Meat in the UK article from the Lib DEm MP. I have just read a very interesting article from Adam Henderson the Gloucestershire farmer (I believe on Countryfile) who says we have plenty of meat in the UK in fact we export 75% of the lambs we produce and that british farmers are now looking to export more beef to Europe as there are surpluses. What he does say that makes sense to me is that it is the custom now to grain feed animals, and that one of the stupidities of that as a system is to grain feed cattle in a barn situated on the field they once grazed beef cattle in!!! Hope that makes some sense, Cheers Lyn xxx.0
