We have the advantage of books containing all the practical knowledge we would need, we'll make it !!!
'We' as humankind probably. But individuals who are disabled or infirm for whatever reason and without anyone to support them, or anyone who has a serious accident/illness etc and who needs sophisticated procedures/meds will most likely be part of the collateral damage. That's apart from the results of any conflicts.
It's what happens in the wild after all - a culling of the old, the sick and the injured.
I can't remembered what it was called or what the percentages were (so that's a fat lot of good then :rotfl:) but there was a survival TV series where the estimated die off, as civilisation rebuilt itself over decades and the drop in life expectancy were pretty major. :(
It all depends on what happens of course. That would be in the worst case scenario of a mass collapse.

hello - I have got a lurgey cold and I am very grumpy with it.

I'm hoping to read the second of the carbon diaries this weekend has anyone else read it?

Off to update the members list - let me know if anyone else wants on :)

sorry I'm not about much but I am still mini prepping - we were in go outdoors in the week and I got some chlorine tabs in a nifty case. not especially good value but small and convenient and a really long shelf life.

We've got a little stash of food and water under the stairs which is also where the grab bags are and we're rotating tins in the kitchen cupboard but the new house is a very different layout to the old place and we have no room for a chest freezer so instead have an undercounter one with drawers and I find it far less user friendly than the small chest freezer that we had. We also no longer have the pantry, the shed or the garage but we do have a few hidey holes within the house so I am utilising those. and guess what - we almost ran out of loo roll this week! we got down to eight rolls! aaaaaargh!

Hello everyone! Just a quick announcement before I rush to the airport to pick up my mother in law. I have just signed the contract to take up a fabulous job in Thailand at a new University. They offered me an amazing career package for the next three years on contract. Even though I had to have a skype interview at 7am! I must have impressed them with my ability to look half decent at that time in the morning and still be able to answer questions from the committee.

I leave for Thailand the third week in June. I am absolutely thrilled.

I had the MRI scan and it shows a tear at the top of my shoulder. The good news is that the acupuncture has taken a lot of the pain away and given me some flexibility back . Good news all round xxxx

Does anyone know of decorative plants that are also edible? That's pineapple's spring resolution - not to plant anything she can't eat :rotfl:
I think I have most of the herbs covered. Plus will be planting some runner beans - very pretty when the flowers come out. I also got some nasturtiums. And that's the sum of my knowledge!

Tall purple peas (pretty flowers and the pods look amazing)
Purple climbing french beans (can be grown with the peas)
Green dwarf curly kale, red curly kale interplanted look really nice..
Fizz is also a pretty kale

    Bulls blood sprouts (red)

Lipstick is a fuschia pink leaf beet and rainbow chard is nice.

Freckles is a good lettuce looks like its got paint splashed on it and red salad bowl, green salad bowl and lolla rossa are nice frilly ones.

Crimson flowered broad beans are lovely.

Annie it's looking like a wonderful year for foraging!!! Sloes and damsons look so healthy and just checked out the pears and plums and they're loaded :j:j As are the apples..I'll let you know when they're ready and pack a picnic :D

Yah! that will make up for last years crop.

I found out today what I thought was bruised muscles is in fact 2 fractured ribs
    Totally self inflicted and avoidable.
Last Sunday, I lent over the sofa arm to pick up something that had dropped off (I also have the computer box next to it), but flung myself over too quickly and not enough clearance to avoid the arm. It's an old sofa and the padding has all but gone now and the pain as I hurled myself on it was like being hit by a spade. It was a little swollen but this has started to go down and the pain last night and this morning was so bad I had to see someone.
Declined the offer to spend the day at the hospital waiting for an x-ray to confirm so co codamol it is.

Because I'm a prepper I have a good food stock, HM frozen ready meals, plenty of pain killers and most other things so I don't need to worry.

I do feel daft bending at the knees properly to pick things up, doing whole body turns rather than twisting and keep my fingers crossed I don't get a cough or cold or even worse; find something funny and burst out laughing :rotfl:

Congratulations on the new job and I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Thailand sounds so beautiful and exotic :j

DD has set off for a long weekend away with a couple of friends and youngest is still at university.

We now have a nice new aerial ready for next week when new tv channels should be arranged but need to buy a couple of new phone handsets as old ones have been made unusable due to upgrade on broadband yesterday.

Seem to have spent all day cooking and having a sit down before tackling all the dishes.
