Does anyone else feel miserable being skint all the time?

Hello
As you can see from my sig, I'm currently ploughing away at over £19k of debt. I've mostly adjusted to spending less and I've enjoyed finding new ways of saving money (I wish I'd found MSE BEFORE I got in debt ).
But....
Sometimes I just feel so miserable being skint all the time. I know it's my own fault for getting into debt in the first place, but every so often I get all down on myself. It sometimes gets on my nerves when I feel like I'm working full-time for nothing. And I have to admit - I sometimes get jealous when I see people who work less than me or earn less than me buying nice things
Do most people feel like this from time to time, and if so, how do you cheer yourself up or motivate yourself? Or is it just me?

Hi.
I have been lurking on MSE for about 6 months now, and have reduced my debt considerably over that time, but still have quite a bit to go.
I have just joined as a member and i have to say that i too get a bit miserable by being so skint all the time.
I know the logistics of it ( it's for the best, it'll be worth it in the long run etc) but that doesn't always make me feel any better!!
Do you have any leeway in your budget at all so that you can allocate a small amount (perhaps £10 a month) for 'Entertainment'? You could go the a Kids AM showing at the cinema (if you have kids), or buy a cheap DVD from the supermarket and some cheap popcorn etc once a month?
Just to say, you aren't alone.0 -
Plus i keep thinking irrational thoughts (i only had my LBM 5 ish weeks ago:o) when i'm walking around a shop just to say 'stuff it' grab lots of nice clothes/shoes etc and hand over my CC
Obviously i won't but i do think about it.....a lot......DEBT FREE AND PROUD

I've kind of past the miserable stage and I'm well on the way to "this is normal" so it doesn't bother me anymore. The only problem I somtimes have is I have gone a bit the other way. I get stressed over money being wasted, I'm the frugal police in our house. I need to take a few steps back, breath, and start to relax a little...0

Awww, I'm glad it's not just me! DFW has been my life saver so far - I genuinely do think I'd crack up if it wasn't for this board!
Sista - we seem to have started with quite similar debt figures and are at similar amounts now. I had my LBM waaaaay back in January though so well done on paying off so much so quickly :T
WantToBeSE - Yeah we do allow ourselves little "treats" - we try to do free stuff wherever possible, e.g. museums, cathedrals, parks etc but we do have to treat ourselves to a pint or two in the pub every so often. No kids yet, fortunately - I couldn't cope with debt mountain if I had children. Hats off to people who do budget to pay off debt when they have kids - it's hard enough for me to budget for two of us
flippin - Oh, I am glad it does get easier
I think I need to unleash my inner miser! A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Started 15/03/2011.

I hate it too
It feels good to see the debts going down, but as a shopaholic and someone who loves to go out for meals and entertainment I find it reeeeally hard to resist when my friends are inviting me out or I see some gorgeous shoes! I just keep visualising the things I want that debts are holding me back from, i.e. owning my own house, having children, etc.
Good luck everyone, I love that this board shows us we're not alone :beer:0 -
You had your glory days of living a life you could not afford and maybe you made others feel rotten when you bought stuff they wanted.
Now you have a few years of pain to pay back the debt, this luckily for you is a lesson not to burden yourself with these debts in the future and live within your means.
Sorry to sound harsh, but just an outsider looking in point of view."And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row."
– after beating Jimmy Connors at the January 1979 Masters. Gerulaitis had lost their previous 16 matches.0
