Car Insurance Renewal please help!

Hi there.
I was involved in a minor incident (would just call it a bump really but hey ho) for which I was at fault- it occurred it October 2011 and still has not been resolved due to the other insurers not providing the invoices yet for the work carried out.
My Car Insurance is due for renewal as of August and the price has come through at £1700 vs a price of about £850 I paid a year ago. I was expecting a rise but this is ridiculous!
What are my rights here? Can I leave and go elsewhere as long as I declare my claim?
Please help!!

Yes you can shop around provided you declare the info. Best to phone Insurers or Brokers, so you can discuss that the claim is still ongoing. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0

You should always shop round at renewal. Even if you hadn't made a claim, most renewals are grossly inflated. Declare the accident, no doubt your ncd has ben reduced, but you should still get a fair price somewhere else. As a guide, ours was around £140 last year, this years renewal was £385, we had changed the car, but it's now back at £160 after shopping round, ironcally with the same company, just as a new customer, through an online broker rather than direct. There's no need to contact your existing insurer, apart from to tell them you won't be renewing with them.0

Thanks for your answers! I thought as much but didn't want to get caught out with a technicality that means I have to stay!0
